I bought a papillon so that my miniature poodle could have company during the day while im at school. They both seem to get along fine but sometimes they take turns humping each other since they are both male. No penetration they just hump for like 5 secs then they take turns its quite funny. Also the papillon is very timid of people he is kind of getting better (i think) but how do I make him not be so timid?

  1. My dogs g*y too, plus he thinks he's a cat. He copy everything our cat does and the cat enjoys it.

  2. Go ahead and take him to the vet and get him checked out and his shots started.  Definitely a dominance thing.  Once they establish who is top dog, the humping will decrease.  As for timidity, give him time and lots of attention.  We just got two Papillons about 2 months ago.  Both were kennel dogs.  One ran loose in the kennel house and the other was alone in a run.  The one alone had never been socialized and rarely handled.  She is still shy and startles easily, but she is now seeking people out for attention and she loves the other animals--Great Danes, Papillons, Schnauzer, cats, birds, rescued rabbit.

  3. Make an appointment with a local recommended vet, ask him the questions you have just listed, but at the same time make sure you don't spend a fortune.

  4. the humping is a domincancy thing.  It will stop as the dogs figure out their pecking order.

Give the pap time to get settled in.  Use alot of praise when he does something good to give him confidence.

Since he didnt have shots, it would have been better if you "quarantined" him away from your current dog for a few weeks.. but what's done is done now.  Make an appt at your vet to get the dog current on vetwork.

  5. Honestly, I think you should have asked that question before you got the puppy. Preparation goes a long way. But anyway...

It's normal for dogs to hump another dog; it's not always sexual. For puppies, it's mostly just play. Among adult dogs, it can be a way of expressing dominance. I assume from your description that they are just playing. :)

It is important to socialize a puppy. Since he's already showing signs of timidness, make sure strangers don't suddenly reach out to pet him because it can increase his fear. Never force him to meet someone; the puppy should be the one to initiate contact.

From your additional details, it seems you bought the dog from an irresponsible owner. Puppies generally get shots relatively early... I'd recommend taking him to a vet to make sure he's still healthy. Better safe than sorry! Preventative measures cost a lot less than emergency care.

Good luck with your puppy. :)

  6. I would advise speaking with your vet regarding getting your dog neutered.  You may want to look at getting flea powder/collars for your dog if you notice any more (your miniature poodle may be affected too if this is not controlled).  Don't worry about the humping, dog's do that sometime - they're just ... horny (for lack of better words).  your dog's personality may be one in which he's a bit introverted/shy and you may not be able to change that, just let people know that he doesn't take well to strangers and to be gentle, perhaps your dog will become used to people when they become more familiar.  good luck with everything.

  7. He is 10 months and no shots...make an appt ASAP!

Fleas and ticks are the least of your worries, they both need to be fixed, the Papi needs his shots before your intro him to your poodle

  8. You need to get your new dog to the vet and get him his vaccinations and a general health check.  Get some flea and tick preventative for him too.  Just give the new dog time to get use to his new surroundings.

  9. The one doing the humping is trying to show the other that he/she is dominate!  Like males poke their chests out, dogs hump...As long as your dog is up to date on all of its shots, Parvo in particular, heart worms and etc you should be ok...but get the dog its shots asap...when you do, have them do a full exam on the dog just to check it out (its a good idea anyway) and if anything comes back abnormal, have your poodle checked out!

  10. Its a dominance thing.

  11. its your responsibility to get the vacs they need and care. you need to give her time coax with treats and sit at her height when you call her and sit on floor and play she will come around as far as them humping its a dominance thing. my female does it to my male all the time lol

  12. congrats, youv got yourself some g*y puppies. But, in that case, you should cnsult your vet, not yahooanswer people.

  13. You probably need to get the pup to the vet for shots and heartworm testing.

You can socialize the dog by taking it out into public with you every day... and exposing him to other dogs and people.

There are a lot of websites on free dog and puppy training, if you do a search.  I think all dogs deserve to be properly trained and socialized.

    take care.
