  1. Call your dentist and ask.

  2. Get off the computer, pick up the phone, and call your dentist!!!!

Who is giving thumbs down to all the basically same answer...which is call your dentist....

    The asker?

  3. I think at 4 days you should be at 'uncomfortable' by now, not still in pain.  You need to call your dentist/oral surgeon right now, because you could have an infection or a dry socket, and the dentist needs to look at it.  I would like for you to be seen before the weekend.  Until you can get seen, I'd like you to rinse with warm salt water, and take tylenol or aleve.  You should also ask your dentist for some more adequate pain medication.  It's one thing to have it and not need it, and another thing to need it and not have it, especially when a weekend is coming up.

Be nice to the dentist's receptionist but be firm about being seen ASAP and definitely before the weekend.  There's no reason for you to be in pain at this point.

    Salt water rinse!  Phone call!

I hope you feel better soon :-)

  4. This would really depend on which tooth, the difficulty of the procedure, any complications that developed during the extraction, what "type and degree" of pain you are having and "if" you have followed your post operative instructions or not.  There are too many factors involved to give you an answer that would be of any help, but I can tell you that you shouldn't worry.

All patients have pain of some sort and to varying degrees after an extraction.  Although, four days post-op, most patients are starting to feel some relief.

I would suggest you call your dentist if the pain is throbbing, especially if accompanied by swelling, any drainage or bad taste or odor in your mouth.  A dry socket can develop even with the best of home care.

If your pain isn't reduced by tomorrow, you may want to call your dentist for a quick check just to be safe.  You may also take an Ibuprofen, such as Advil or Motrin 600mg (this is for an adult dose) every 4-6 hours to help reduce inflammation and soreness.  Also be sure to use the (very) warm salt water rinses being sure to swish vigorously several times a day and especially after eating to remove any food particles that may become lodged in the socket area.  The warm salt water will also reduce the bacteria count which will help reduce the possibility of an infection.

I hope you get to feeling better, chances are you will feel improvement by tomorrow, so hang in there!  Call your dentist if you don't feel relief or even if it will make you feel better; we prefer to keep you comfortable.

Additional information:  Undoubtably it's the one who doesn't like the answers giving the thumbs down.

  5. call your dentist, describe the pain. ask them if you're ok or not.

  6. It depends on the type and severity of the pain.  If you have severe throbbing pain just at the extraction site combined with a bad smell, you might have a dry socket, which can be treated by your dentist.  If it's just a general ache in your jaw, you likely have nothing to be worried about.  I've had a total of 7 teeth pulled and each time my jaws hurt for about a week to 2 weeks afterwards.  Take some tylenol or advil and stay on soft foods until it's better.  Hope you feel better soon!
