  1. if anything was to happen you'd all die so there'd be no need to worry about who to help first...... (but i share your fear....)

  2. take a volume before getting on the plane lol

  3. I suggest you just stay home if you are this keyed up.  Seriously the airline doesn't need another episode of Twilight Zone.

  4. Alcohol is the way to go. Or couple of sleeping pills.

  5. In an emergency you let the crew handle things, and you follow their instructions.  Don't attempt to help your children first, particularly when it comes to putting on an oxygen mask, as you may pass out before you can do anything for them.  The flight attendants are essentially safety technicians, and they constantly train for the worst, and they know exactly how to help everyone survive in a crash, so it's best for you to not try to improvise on their behalf.

  6. they tell you this on the plane, secure yourself so you can then secure your children.

  7. i flew for the first time last year to sri lanka (10 hours) i was soooooooooooo nervous. i went to see my doctor and he prescribed valium 5mg. I took one the night before the flight and half before the flight and i found the whole thing absolutely wonderfull.  go see your doctor and he will sort you out - then book your holiday, relax and have fun. I am going back again next year - loved it that much x*x

  8. Believe me you are safer up there than on any road. There are courses you can take to alley  your fears. I worked for an airline for 6 years (many moons ago) and never felt any fear. Think about this, do you think aircrews would risk their lives on a daily basis if it seemed as unsafe as your fear.

Turbulance is unavoidable at times but think of it as bumps on a road - are they scary NO.

  9. Hello,

(ANS) YES! I can relate to your story as I hate flying too. OK! lets put things into a rational thoughtful perspective here.

No.1 To start with a fear of flying is 100% completely normal, why? because for humans to take their feet off the ground is unnatural, we are out of natural condition. Humans like (prefer) to have their feet on the earth.

No.2 Another problem with flying is that you have to literally place your life, & trust and faith in the a) technology involved i.e. wings & jet engines, b) the captain & crew etc.

No.3 When we take our feet off the ground i.e. on take off its a profound process of "letting go", its a VERY similar process to o****m. Its a release experience and we are no longer in control and I think most of us don't like that feeling much. I totally like to be in control of myself & my life but flying takes that away from us.

No.4 The fear of flying is deeply irrational its a very instinctive type of fear BUT it can be managed and in some people it can even be overcome. You can take fear of flying courses and no! its NOT as stupid as it sounds and YES! it can and does help people. Who want to fly but are unable to due to the fear. There are several companies that run such courses throughout the year.

No.5 I use something called "rescue remedy" which is a natural Bach Flower remedy, yes! I know it sounds very weird but despite the name (don't be put off by the name itself).  It REALLY works and helps calm me down before, during & after the flight. Its also very good for jet lag too.

  10. lol sounds like my hubby.. see ur doc he will give you something for the anxiety, try to remain calm so your fear doesnt pass on to ur kids......have a nice hol:)

  11. See a specialist to help you overcome you fear, it's unlikely that any tablet could help you overcome a major phobia.

Or alternatively, if you want to go abroad without flying, try taking a train abroad. France should be easy enough to get to if you live in England, try taking the eurostar, then another train to the south from Paris maybe, if you want somewhere warmer. You can also take a ferry to Calais and drive, but ferries can also be rather turbulent.
