I am traveling to Rome in a few months and I HATE to fly. It literally scares me to death. To the point that I set there thinking how I can get out (yes thats right... while were flying). Anyway, I need to know if anyone with similar fear has any suggestions. I have to book by the 21st and I'm not sure if it would be better to have a connecting flight (if it were up to me we would touch down every 30 mins lol) or straight through to get it over with?!?! Any help would be wonderful!!!!

Thanks!

  1. I agree with the other two people.  You don't want to stop if you don't have to.  Then you run more of a risk of missing your connecting flight, it just makes things more difficult, and takes a lot longer!!  Talk to your doctor to see if they can give you some sort of medication to take the edge off while you fly.  Whatever they give you will probably also help you sleep.  Bring things to keep you busy, or watch the movies they usually play on International flights.

  2. A non-stop flight is your best bet.  It will minimize the travel time.  You may want to see your physician for a Valium prescription.  They are mild enough, but really help you relax if you're very anxious when you board the flight.

  3. I agree it would be better to fly straight through.  Many people are afraid of the take-offs and landings.  However once the plane is airborne, people who are afraid usually settle down.  That is why I suggest that you fly without any stops.

You can read a book or if there is someone who is willing to talk to you, talk to that person.  You can even let a flight attendant know that you are afraid to fly.  There are a lot of postings here by people who are afraid to fly.  If you can take some medicine which will allow to sleep through the entire flight such as Dramamine, that would be good too.
