I live in Houston, we are on city water, but it is really hard water; when I add bleach to the water in the washer, the water turns a bit brown. I assumed it mean we had a high iron content in our water supply. I do know that our lime deposits are higher here than they were in Mississippi. We had very soft water there. The transition has been quite remarkable.

You may have to purchase different chemicals for your water, check with a pool supply house. Wal Mart associates may can help you.

first of all when u add fresh water to your pool especially from a well u need to add a metal remover...before u add chlorine or shock put your filter on and pour the metal out in front of your return jet, let circulate for about an hour then u can shock and chlorinate your pool...u will have to backwash pool in 24 to 48 hrs to remove it form the sand..

add a sequestering agent to the water that helps clear out all the minerals in the water. it should say that it removes stain scale and rust. next time when you add water either get a filter that threads onto the end of your garden hose to help filter out the rust or use a bunch of old socks and tie as many as possible to the end of your garden hose to help filter it out. still use the sequestering agent to work along side that and weekly thereafter. if it is a cartridge element you want to keep that filter cleaned as much as possible it may take a few weeks to clear itself out.
