  1. I always take it all out, cuz the siphon thing makes the water dirty for me. I know your not supposed to, but i do. And have never had a problem with it.

It lookes nicer, and is more clean.

  2. Yes, that's generally how a water change is done.

My tank is for goldfish so I don't have a heater, I let the water sit until it gets to room temperature [two or three hours] before adding it.

  3. Yes, 25% is good if you do it every week.  Also, you really don't have to mix the water in a bucket before putting in the tank, the chloramine and chlorine removers in the water conditioner will work right in the aquarium.

It's good to see you are doing water changes the way they should be done, once a week is the best interval, but every two weeks is acceptable if you change a bit more water than the 25%, say 40%.

  4. have a bucket ready before you clean the tank, I personally have two buckets one for siphoning the tank and one for adding water to the tank, I leave the bucket with conditioner and sometimes a little salt in the bucket for a couple of hours while I do chores and then siphon the fish tank and add the new water. For my bigger tanks I do about 15-20% water changes for my 5 gallons and fish bowls I usually take about half out... hope this helps :)
