  1. It is most likely by Claude Joseph Vernet though there were

several artists by that name. It seems he did a number

of paintings of which "Tivoli" is part of the title. If your

piece is a copy, the title may have been simplified for

marketing purposes. There is, however, a reference to

your piece in a book on "Jstor" as being in the Tate:

Quote: You need to sign on to read the rest:

while another citing it as in a private (Alexander Day, Esq.)

collection (yet the date is unknown) and yet a third stating

simply as part of the "British Collections" and a fourth, as of March, 1997:

.... that the St. Louis Art Museum is celebrating Italian art, and that an exhibit on "In the Light of Italy: Corot and Early Plein-Air Painting" includes the "View at Tivoli" by Claude

Joseph Vernet [grand-father of Sherlock Holmes' granduncle Horace Vernet]; the exhibit closes on May 18,(1997).

I would check the piece with a magnifying glass and look to

see evidence of dots as opposed to brushstrokes as well..

check the sides (ends) of the canvas to see if the image ends

abruptly or in a more natural fashion as an artist may have

painted it. I've tried to list all citations below yet have been

unable to find a definitive location. If you're still

unconvinced, I would call a reputable appraiser or a fine

    auction house.

In either case, I wish you the best of luck!
