graph y = 6/7x -7

the y intercept is 7 or -7..

and 6/7 is my slope..right?

do i got up 6 down, left, right...and the same with 7....

what are the basic things you need in order to succeed on graphic a linear function....

ps: i ve never been good at graphing linear equations ive asked teachers but they teach me in a matter that i understand for that moment but however i dont remember it later on....im like an A student but you may see my report card and i have pure A's except math....

ive tried to be good at math...still idont want to give up i always keep trying....

  1. -7 is your x intercept so you start off by moving down 7 spaces on your graph and thats where your point will be begin

    then you are wrong you don't go 6 over, 1 up

    you go 6/7 over for every one space you go up

    you want to do about 2 points this way and 2 points the other way to give a good look of your graph

  2. No, the y intercept is -7. Not 7.

  3. Think as to WHAT IS THE SLOPE?  It is the change in y for a given change in x.   So if you write the equation twice, once of a given set of points(x1,y1 and x2,y2), you have

    y1= 6/7 x1-7 AND.......

    y2=6/7 x2-7

    Subtract the first eqtn from the second, we have.....

    y2 - y1 =6/7 x2 - 6/7 x1

    Factoring,  ( y2-y1)/(x2 - x1)= 6/7

    You should know both the y- and x- intercepts, since they are two quicky point for graphing.  The y intercept is where x=0, and in a like manner, the x-intercept is where y=0.

    In this equation, using this definition, 6/7x=7, and x=49/6.

    Now you have two points (0,-7) and (49/6,0)

  4. to graph this, start at 0,0 or the cross.

    go down 7. make a dot.

    from that dot go up 6, and over 7 to the right. amke a dot here too.

    connect the dots

    extend the line and draw arrows on either end.

    good luck

  5. ok the y-intercept is always the part not attached to an x. In this case the y-int is -7. Meaning the graph crosses the y-axis (the one going up and down) at (0,-7).

    The your slope is the one in front of x, or 6/7. Slope is rise/run. So you go up 6 and to the right 7, and you will get your next point. You could also go down 6 and to the left 7 to get a point in the opposite direction.

  6. -7 is your y intercept. The second part of this equation will always be your y intercept, either negative or positive depending on the sign.

    6/7 is the slope. Slope is rise over run (rise/run), meaning the top number deals with the Y axis (vertical) and the bottom number deals with the X axis (horizontal).

    For instance here you would make a point at -7 (the line will always go through your Y intercept).  Now you got up 6, and 7 to the right (Rise over Run), and make another point. Connect the dots and you have your line.

    If your slope is negative, for example y=-1/2x

    the here your y intercept is (0,0) because there is no second term. The it does not matter which part of the slope you associate the negative with because it will give you the same line. Here you could either go down 1 and to the right 2, or up 1 and to the left 2. (-1/2 and 1/-2 are the same thing)
