  1. I am currently building a Klipsch F-3 system.  All I have left to add is the S-3 surrounds.  I love the F-3 speaker lots of sound and no distortion.  The C-3 center channel puts out great sound but it is a little large.  Once I heard Klipsch I knew what I had to have.

  2. Yes a budget would be nice.  But lets look at it this way using an old audio rule of thumb spend half you total audio system budget on the speakers!  Speakers are the most important part of any audio system.

The Receivers purpose is mainly for audio with a little bit of video switching if you choose to set it up that way.  So the Retail price for that unit is $850.  Let’s guess your DVD player is about $200 but it primary purpose is Video so we will give its audio value $50.

Adding up the audio portion $850 plus $50 is $900.  That would be a bottom retail starting point for speakers.  There are many $1000 systems out there; your ears should be the judge.  Pick the ones you like don't fall for the "brand loyalty thing."  Some to listen to are those listed above and in this calculated price range these too Boston Acoustic, Polk, Mirage, NHT, Infinity, etc.........

Few pointers if you listen to mostly:

~Movies, All speakers about the same size with a good subwoofer shooting for a 7.1 system

~Music, Two main speakers (front left and right) should be at least $600 (1k for me) with the remainder of your cash for surrounds and center.  I would go for a 5.0 system that is two fronts a center and two rears, no sub.

~Mix of both, Go for a 5.1 with the best fronts you afford, if you happen to have lots of cash then a 7.1 system with some high quality fronts.

Other tips: it's best to match all speakers by brand and model to help total quality between them.

And last but the most important of all.. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON BOSE

  3. Generally any decent set of speakers will work well with that Yamaha.

Yamaha is well respected and works great with many brands of loudspeakers.

I would suggest a set of monitor-style speakers and a self-powered subwoofer.  This tends to be the most flexible, less expensive and leaves the power-hungry low frequency duties to the sub.

  4. Wow, a budget would help. Speaker systems are all over the map. Also, it's a subjective question since pretty much any speaker will work with your Yamaha. Jamo, as suggested, is a fine speaker system.

The place to start is a budget because the $20,000 set will always sound better than the $1000 set and you will inch your way up until you've priced yourself out of the speaker market.

Once you have a budget, go to every store in your area and listen to things in your price range. Let your ears do the shopping and you will fall in love with something.

Here's some brands I like in varied price ranges. This is by no means a complete list of what's good: B&W, Atlantic Technology, Niles, SpeakerCraft, Jamo (pronounced yamo), Monitor Audio.

  5. I would suggest a 5.1 speaker system from Jamo.
