when i do test the teacher gives a short version test from the others, like on my final i got a 50 question packet and the rest got 100 question packet. I got to keep my study guide and others had to make a cheat sheet or if they didn't do it they had nothing. sometimes i feel stupid and not normal! but i am always organized, careful, and always caring about others.

  2. If you are on a 504 plan  or an iep  (individual educational program)  there may be modification s listed such as shorter tests and study guides, your teacher is required to provide these services to you.  It is a federal mandate.  IF your teacher does not provide you these services, the school district can find itself in a lot of trouble.

However, if you feel you can do the test like the other students, then talk to your teacher and parents prior to the test.  Your teacher must document the communication, and you can attempt the regular test.

And when your next meeting comes up for your IEP or 504, you can change the document.  (or a meeting can be called prior to the annual review)

  3. you dont have to use the special treatment. take the 100 question final and use a cheat sheet to show that you arent any different.

  4. People with ADD lack "filters" in their brain that allow those without ADD to filter out non-essential input (audio or visual).  For someone with ADD, all input (noises, movement) are equally important as what a teacher is talking about.  It makes it very difficult for someone with ADD to learn because the student whispering, the paper rustling, the person walking down the hall, the bird flying by, the tree moving in the wind, and the teacher talking all have the same importance and no one can absorb all that input at the same time.  So there are "skips" in the steps learned which make life difficult for someone with ADD.  It is possible to learn how to create your own "filters", but it is easier to limit the audio and visual input you subject yourself to when you are trying to learn.

The accommodations you have are not because you are stupid, it's just that your brain tries too hard to take in everything, when only 10% of what's coming at you is important enough for you to remember it.  If you want to try the 100 question test, go for it!  Just use your study guide or make yourself a "cheat sheet".  Do talk with your teacher ahead of time about what you would like to do.

Normal?  What is "normal"?  Sorry, I don't know anyone who is "normal" is every way - it would make someone very boring to be totally "normal"!
