I have a 1000 peso Mexican coin from 1988. How much would it be worth now in American dollars?

I know they changed the peso money thing in 1992 but I just want some reassurance.

  1. $ 50.

  2. They made two different types.  A dealer would have to see the coin to determine its actual value.  The following vaqlues are from the current edition of "Standard Catalog of World Coins."

Bronze, with portrait of Juana de Asbaje.  If in perfect condition, it's worth about $3 - $4.  If even slightly worn, it's worth less than $1.

Gold proof, with portrait of Cardenas, contains 1 oz gold, so will be worth $800 - $900.

    Good luck.

  3. That 1000 pesos are now 1 peso, so 10 cents dollars.

  4. It's less than garbage....I traveled to Mexico in 88, taking all this Mexican money I had accumulated and the bank told me it had expired just a month prior. I asked them if they would at least dispose of it for me and they turned me down.

  5. About a dime.  After the 1993 revaluation, that became, in essence a 1 peso coin.  (1 New Peso = 1000 Old Pesos)

All the high denomination 1988 coins were base metal, so it has, basically, no intrinsic value, nor does it have any value as a collectible.
