I Have a question about my Pregnant Yorkie, I'm Worried...?

My pregnant yorkie is due about September 11th, up until today her belly was hard and full, today we noticed it is mushier. We are worried that she may have miscarried, this is our first pregnant dog we have owned and so we are not sure if this is normal. She's lost her appetite, and she's acting different. But her belly is a main concern for us, as I said before it was really full and hard, now softer and looks not as full. Please help, we cant take her to a vet today because its Sunday. Any insight would be great and please don't preach about the dogs in pounds. We just need advice on this. Thanks

  1. if she miscarried you would have found the dead pups...

I would get her to a vet first thing tomorrow .. and keep an eye on her now - rush to the vet if it gets bad..

this link is good info for people wanting to be dog breeders.

  2. I use to breed poms...Can you feel puppies moving? Does she have any discharge? If you can't feel puppies moving or she has some discharge, you really need to take her to the vet.  The whole time I bred poms, I only lost one litter of three because they were premature.  I couldn't stop the birth.  If you do end up taking her to a vet today, the cost shouldn't be that much for an emergency visit and the health of the mama dog is worth it.  Good luck to you and I hope Ive helped a little.

  3. Take her to the vet. She may have miscarried. I know that you dont want to hear it but as soon as you are done with the whole ordeal, have her spayed. You dont want something like this to happen again, do you?

  4. Take her to the vet tomorrow, keep an eye on her, and in the future, spay and neuter your pets. Of course you don't want to hear about dogs in pounds because YOU are the problem.

There are a million backyard breeders out there that have no idea what they are doing and contribute to the millions of animals abused or put to sleep.

Good luck with you dog, but don't act all ignorant and contribute to the problem.

  5. Pregnancy is the period of gestation when the young are developing in the mother's uterus. Normal gestation in dogs is 58 to 68 days (the average is 63 days).

The litter size in dogs varies from one puppy to more than 17 in some giant breed dogs. Litter sizes are often smaller in young and old animals and largest when the mother is around three to four years of age.

Conditions that may be confused with pregnancy include false pregnancy, mastitis (inflammation of the mammary glands), mammary gland neoplasia (cancer), abdominal enlargement due to fluid accumulation or organ enlargement, or pyometra (infection of the uterus).

    What to Watch For

Nesting behavior (attempting to make a nest by tearing up papers, blankets, etc.)

  6. If there is an emergency vet in your area take here there. If she has lost the pregnancy then she needs to be examined and may need to be spayed if in fact the puppies have started to rot inside of her

  7. Call your vet!  Sunday or not he/she will be the best one to tell you what to do.  Have you taken her temp?

If your that concerned then find a e-vet and have her seen.  Peace of mind it worth any amount of money!
