maybe its just old?

try soaking it in vinegar. if it turns brass/brown then it is normal. if it is still gold, then I would say that it's different than a regular penny.

I also have the wierd 1978 canadian penny that is noticably golden when next to other pennies. In trying to find out about it today, I by chance stumbled on your question, so would like same answers!

It could have been gold plated or brass plated but the mint did not do it. By 1978 no tin was used in the cent only zinc so it can not be bronze. Sometimes more tin showed up in the cents before 1962 and that made them bronze. It also could have been near a chemical that did it.
