I Have two Kicker L7 15's & two Zx1500.1 Amps is it a good Combination?

im hooking all this up to a 03 Mercury Grand Marquis.

i had two 12s L7 with 1 Zx1500.1 amp but sold them to get two 15s L7 and an extra ZX1500.1

Now i have two 15s L7 & two kicker Zx1500.1 amps. is it possible to use both amps and hook one to one sub & the other to the second sub? and is that a good combination? do i need a separate battery? because when i use 2 have the 12s the lights would dim on the car even while using a small capacitor.

  1. with 3000 watts total power there is not other solution to your power issues other than you NEED a HO alternator. You will also need a Big 3 upgrade. and with a new alternator i recomend a deap cycle battery, not a extra one, just a replacement like a optima. a second battery will only add extra load to your alternator. also i must say it seams a bit silly. understand i love loud music, but doubling your power is only gonna gain you 3db. and thats not really alot for the price of all that hardware, money i would have put into the electrical system. Over all a ZX1500.1 into a 15" L7 is a good match. just dont expect a ton of increased volume. maybe 6 db total (3db for more power and 3db more for the newer subs).

but with that said you can have 2 amps running them but i would have them in seperate enclosures. and be sure the phase is set exactly right, or they will actually work against each other (at least to some degree).

On a side note, if you really want loud (seams you do) then i would recomend 2X 12" competition pioneers. they hold the world record for SPL and would take up about the same space. in fact one zx1500.1 into a pair of those pioneers may very easily out SPL the 2 15" L7's with two amps. here is some scientific math for you.

world record = 178.8 db 13 subs (see link)

    with 7 subs ~ -3b = 175db

    with 4 subs ~ -3db = 172db

    with 2 subs ~ -3db = 169.00db

assuming you power them properly.... my friend 169.00db is extremly loud.... and thats w/ 2 12" subs....

  2. you will be good...thats a good combo.

as far as the dimmage goes.....upgrade the big 3 (battery ground to frame, engine block to frame, and alternator to battery...all should be done using the same gague wire that you use to power up you amp.) i would probably use 0g wire. run it back to the amps and split to the amps using a fused distribution block. you can use 4g from the distro block to the amps.

make sure you have a good battery (optima or kenetik). if you still have dimmage after the big 3 upgrade and the new battery, you will want to up grade your alternator. you can either have your existing one rebuilt or get a HO one. (rebuilding would be cheaper...probably under $200...go the biggest you can). if you still have issues, add a second battery in the trunk. you can just take off the distro block and connect the battery to that. then come off the trunk battery  to go to the amps. if you add a second battery, make sure to fuse at the + terminals of BOTH batteries (or fused link). this will prevent sparking and possible fire if the power came disconnected between the two for any reason.

don't bother with a capacitor. doing the above will gain you the power not only your system needs, but your entire car.
