I Just downloaded Safari & it isn't connecting?

i keep getting the message

Safari can’t connect to the server.

Safari can’t open the page “http://www.apple.com/startpage/” because it could not connect to the server “www.apple.com”.

im confused because my internet is connected, i have no proxys or firewalls running. everything is working fine. im on windows xp.

help?

you should have a firewall  but check your anti spy ware and anti virus they could be blocking you
