  1. Good answers above mine.

    Good point about the referees.

Check with the coach before the coin toss to make sure if they want to serve or receive.

You are supposed to be the sole contact for your team with the first referee.  Brush up on the rules and check on how to ask the questions to the referees.   And what to ask?  You can ask a question about the interpretation of a rule.  Not on their judgement.  Questions like "do you think the ball was completely above the height of the net" when they call your team for a back row attack should be allowed if you ask politely.  Or "did you think the ball was below the height of the net" when they did a back row attack that was not called on their team.  I referee regularly and I love it when the captain comes over and says something like "that was a back row attack."   The answer is " no it was not, and the discussion is over."  Also forget "you can't call that" in a very loud voice and the realizing that they forgot the question adding softly, "can you?"  Another question to forget is "are you sure?"   Another question to forget is the "why did you call that double hit on our setter?"  It is a question, but it is questioning their judgement.  Also, do not approach every other play even if you are nice and ask intelligent questions.

I hope this presents some things not covered before.

  2. Hey congrats on making captain! I hope to be one for my team this year.

    Attitude:

-A captain is a leader. You should lead not only by what you say, but by how you act. Don't be all talk- back up what you say with your actions.

-In practice, at games, or off court show your team that you are disciplined, committed and will do your best. Your team needs to see consistency in your attitude, behavior, and performance from activity to activity.

-If you are having doubts about a game or think you will lose- dont let it show. If you do, the morale of the team will probably go down. Stay mentally focused and do not give up- this takes discipline. You have to believe in yourself- and get the team to have that attitude too.

-Be positive!! Encourage your teammates individually and all together.

    Responsibilities:

-Deliver the coach's instructions to your team.

-Help get ready before and after pratice (poles, nets)

-Like I said before, encouraging your team.

-Check up with the coach for practice times, important details on games, etc.

    -Remind your teammates about practices.

-On court, bring the team together when you can to give direction for strategies or what everyone needs to straighten up on.

-If you are at an away game, bring the team together when you arrive and have a short warm-up. Sometimes the captain leads warm ups at practice too.

-Check up with refs before games for info about who serves first and whatnot.

Ribbons are a good idea, otherwise I don't have any ideas about stuff from the craft store.

Thats about all I can think of. Don't let the big list overwhelm you! If it seems really hard, it's not! It may be a challenge, but I think you'll find being captain is worth it. Good luck!

  3. pony tail holders would be nice!!!

  4. leadership.....patience............

  5. I am also a captain of my volleyball team, and expectations run pretty high. It depends what your team is like, really. My team is very up-beat and energetic. Its sweet of you to buy them ribbons and stuff, thats showing signs of kindess and good leadership. You are taking control.

    Helpful tips-

*Even though you ARE captain, don't like the idea TOO much. Some people on your team probably wanted to be captain, too, so just be a little subtle about it.

*That doesn't mean you should just stand back. ALWAYS make sure everyone on your team is ready, but let them voice their opinions also. They might have really good ideas.

*You will do fine as captain, just really remember that the important thing is to play VOLLEYBALL and kick butt! =]

  6. Congrats !! And What Is Expected- Leader.Great Attitude.Love To Show Examples.Step It Up.Tell People What To Do/How To Do It. Work With Them After School.

Ribbons Should Just Be Good For Now.
