  1. He built three ships actually.

    SS Great Britain

    SS Great Western

    SS Great Eastern

Why wasn't this guy given a knighthood?

  2. He built three.

The Great Western was wooden-hulled and built for the Atlantic trade.

The Great Britain was the world's first iron-hulled, s***w-driven ship; and as such was utterly revolutionary.  It is open to the public in Bristol.

The Great Eastern was the largest ship ever built (it was sixty years before anyone built a bigger one).  It was a technological marvel, but an economic failure (it was intended to serve a market that didn't really exist - non-stop to Australia).  The stress of building it pretty much killed Brunel, who had a stroke on its deck as it was preparing for its maiden voyage.  It's solidity is best summed up by the fact that it once hit a rock and received a bigger gash than that which sank the Titanic - yet sailed on unaffected.

It had a later career as an Atlantic cable-layer, but was broken up.  Only one remnant of it remains - its mast, which is to be seen outside Anfield.

  3. Great Eastern , Great Western and Great Britain

  4. Great Britain, Great Western and Great Eastern

You could do that by using Google, I did and was not that hard.  Was quicker than posting here a question.
