I.K. Kim does fine in first round of Evian Masters 2012
South Korean I.K. Kim shot a 69 in the first round of the Evian Masters 2012 to tie for the eight position on the leaderboard.
Kim got off to a decent start and consolidated her position with the help of four birdies. The South Korean star is competing in a roster awash with battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars such as current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Suzann Pettersen, Cristie Kerr, Ai Miyazato, Na Yeon Choi and Lexi Thompson.
Kim might have made some mistakes on the first day of the LPGA event, being played at Evian-les-Bains, but she is keeping her hopes up and has vowed to put her best foot forward in the next three rounds.
The weather was a bit troublesome on Thursday, as heat kept players from showing their real skills. Yet contenders like Kim beat the odds and did fine on the course.
The South Korean star appeared to be in high spirits when she set foot on the course, as she avoided making careless strokes on most of the holes. She parred the first hole, and made her first birdie on the par-4 3rd hole.
Kim amazed the spectators when she shot two consecutive birdies on the 8th and 9th hole. On the back nine, the LPGA star kept the pressure intact on her rivals as did not lose momentum. She fired her fourth birdie on the 14th, but faltered on the 16th, recording a bogey.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the first round, Kim said that she is more than happy that she found yet another opportunity to exhibit her skills at Evian-Les-Bains. She said that she is satisfied with her performance and looks forward to maintaining her momentum in the next rounds.
“It's nice to be back in Evian.  I had a good rest last two weeks, and I'm really excited to come back and play some good golf,” the LPGA titan said.
“You know, the golf course have been changed a little bit.  There is few holes, few par‑3s, and you know, just they make it a little bit longer, I guess.  But, you know, if you play well you can shoot some low scores here”.
