I.K. Kim inside top 20 at TwinEagles Club
South Korean I.K. Kim has been trying to end her victory drought since her last triumph at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in 2010, but she displayed a good performance in some of tournaments
in the recently concluded 2012 season.
Kim took part in the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012 with an aim to win, but she found it hard to subdue her nearest rivals on some of the holes.
She carded a 284 to finish tied for 18th position.
Kim got off to a sluggish start to her campaign that witnessed her shoot a 72 in the first round. She then improved her position a little by firing a 70 in the second round on Friday.
Kim focused on her short game, as the greens of The TwinEagles Club were tricky enough to make the shots go off their course.
Still, Kim stood her ground and kept on putting pressure on rivals with the help of almost-perfect drives.
The final round was the scene of disappointment, as the South Korean star could not capitalise on her third-round score, a solid 69.
She opened the round on Sunday with a birdie on the first hole. But she faltered on the third, carding a bogey.
On the back nine, her lousy form continued, which saw her register three bogeys and two birdies.
Other contenders who grabbed the attention right from the start of the four-day LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament included Norwegian Suzann Pettersen and So Yeon Ryu.
Pettersen continued her stunning form as she carded a massive 66 in the first round to share an early lead.
Speaking during her first-round interview, Pettersen said that she was a little complacent at the start.
“You know, I didn't really pay too much attention. I saw some girls are like 5‑, 6‑under when we were only five, six holes into it,” said the Norwegian prodigy who stunned her fans after
grabbing two back-to-back titles in Asia in October 2012.
She said that she was sure after a fiery performance in Asia that she can take things a bit easy. “I'm really trying not to even pay attention to it, but I just looked at one leaderboard just
to see kind of what people were doing, how kind of what the course is giving us”.
