I.K. Kim stands at 11th position in Women’s World Golf Rankings
South Korean I.K. Kim, who could not make the cut at the US Women’s Open 2012, has slipped to the 11th position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Kim is one of the rising stars on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour and has been performing well since turning pro in 2006.
Although winless since her last victory at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in the 2010 season, Kim has been displaying a balanced performance in recent events.
However, in the last event of the 2012 season, the US Women’s Open, she faltered and tumbled to the 11th position in the world rankings.
The US Women’s Open 2012 held at Kohler featured a very solid field that pitted top-ranked LPGA stars against each other, but Kim’s performance raised her fans’ concerns, as she was not able to make the cut.
Analysts said that at a time when Asian, especially South Korean contenders, are proving their mettle on the Tour and boosting their rankings, performing below average has put a dent in Kim’s overall reputation.
Analysts, however, pointed out that the South Korean star has what it takes to bounce back, as she has shown in the past events. They added that the professional golfer has been seeking to end her victory drought, but due to miscalculations, she has not been able to prove her worth.
The Evian Masters 2012 is going to start from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France, with most of the LPGA stars in the roster.
Kim, who displayed a stunning performance in the last edition of the tournament, can atone for her lapses this month in France.
Analysts said that since American players are struggling to get back on track, the South Korean golfer can capitalise on this opportunity and do her best on the course this time.
Kim kicked off the tournament with plenty of confidence, and posted a 74 in the opening round. However, she regained her composure in the second round and registered an explosive 68.
She looked unstoppable, as she stunned the spectators in the third round by shooting a 64. Despite playing a near-flawless game, the 24-year-old LPGA titan could not stand her ground against Japanese Ai Miyazato.
