I have an awesome Tenessee walking horse named Pep. I was wondering what types of horses everyone likes, tell me what breed you like and why, is it because your horse is that breed, your lesson horse is that breed, you think their pretty? I am bored and was wondering.

  1. Well, idk. I have ridden both Quarter and Tenessee Walking Horses. But they both are cool too.

  2. Being that I just love horses, this is a tough one.  My girlfriend has an appaloosa/arab cross that is gorgeous.  My horse is a chestnut polish arab with flaxen mane.  And I did buy her naively on looks alone.  The walker's ride is smooth.  If you're bored, you need to go ride.

  3. I like pintos,i think they are beautiful, but i must say, tennesee walking horses are a much better ride!

  4. I like walkers too but the trails I ride here are just too rough for them as a whole.  The only problem I have ever found with walkers is that their overeach (one of the things which gives them a smoother ride) during their running walk makes them a little more prone to stumbling than the Fox Trotters that running walk.  Though admittedly the Walker is a little smoother of the two as a whole, I still prefer the Fox Trotter.  I can gait them over ground which I would not gait over on a Walker.

I also like arabs but will not buy another one simply because since I went gaited I began covering more miles and enjoy my rides more.

Both Tennessee Walking Horses and Missouri Fox Trotters come in all the paint varieties (the paint registry wants you to call them pintos but the term pinto actually applies to a small horse of indian heritage with the paint pattern.

  5. Hey there Gaited Cowgirl!  I ride gaited horses.  My husband and I have 2 registered TWH (Zip and Little Joe), 2 spotted saddle horses (Spur and Snow Rabbit), 1 American gaited pony (Moon Man), a KY Mountain Saddle horse (Boomerang) and 1 gaited mule that we have just started.

We trail ride and like to cover a lot of ground in a day's time, so we use the gaited horses.  They seem to be perfectly made for that kind of riding!  We have ridden 8 hours a day for 10 days straight.  We didn't get sore and our horses didn't get tired. (We took breaks for lunch and chatting and such along the way.)

We even show them in the area county fair shows, which is something different for us and for our horses.

It's not that we don't like other horses, we just prefer the gaited horses for the kind of riding we do.

I used to work with Belgians, Percherons, Suffolk Punches, Halflingers, Clydesdales, Shires and Mammoth Mules and then also Gelderlanders, Norwegian Fjords, Morgans and Quarter horses.  They are all wonderful in their own unique way.

    Happy trails!

  6. I am pretty partial to my National Show Horse! He is perfect for pretty much any disipline I feel like riding that day!

  7. I love the look and temperment of a quality Quarter horse.  Nothing compares in my book.  I own 2 quarter horse and arab crosses and they are perfect if you want an exciting ride.  They have the looks of a quarter horse with the fire of an arabian.

My mare has the bulk of a quarter horse with beauty of arabian.  Her son has the narrower build of an arabian but he is TALL with a beautiful neck and head carriage.   Both of them are fun to ride.

  8. quarter horse. THe first i ever rode she tok very good care of me and was very kind and patient! I remember her putting up a fight to her cushings desiese now shes in a better place (:

  9. wassup =]

i love my mare. shes a solid black appaloosa. i dont necessarily   like them with all the spots.

i also really like arabians. my grandma had two arabians but just had to put one down because of laminitis. but she still has the other one. i absolutely love her. and i also really like drafts and thoroughbreds. i think they are so pretty =]

  10. sure,but Arabians are better!

  11. I have a Morgan, rocky mountain /quarter pony cross, Kentucky walking horse, and a Tennessee Walker. My favorite to ride is my TWH you just cannot get a better ride than them . Cowboys Cadillac!

  12. I LOVE draft breeds, but it just so happens I like thoroughbreds!!!!! They are so beautiful and sleek and fast.......... what is not to like about them?
