I've never had sushi because everyone says it is risky to eat. But, I have also heard that it is really good. What should I try first? What does it taste like? and How do I lessen the risk of getting sick?

  1. california rolls are really good to start out, they only have crab meat in them and like celery avacado and stuff like that,

i dont eat "real" sushi but i LOVE these

  2. It's not risky to eat. All those people saw a special about raw fish in a mexican village and now think it applies to all fish. Go to a nice sushi restaurant and order a rainbow roll. If you like that then just go from there and try other things.

  3. I highly recommend tuna, salmon, snapper...

For something a little more exotic, do try salmon roe (ikura).

One that I do not recommend is sea urchin (uni) but if you're feeling adventurous, be my guest.

And while you're at it, consider trying sashimi, which is typically sliced fairly thin, served with no rice, a dipping sauce (usually the same stuff as with sushi -- soy sauce, wasabi, ginger...), and simple garnitures. As with sushi, you can't go wrong with salmon, tuna, mackerel, definitely give fatty tuna (toro) a try.

There's a lot more to try, which you will no doubt notice when you look at the menu of a good sushi and sashimi restaurant. Go wild and experiment is what I think you should do.

And sushi is really not risky to eat. Don't fall victim to rampant germophobia! Use your best judgment and go to a sushi place that has lots of customers, which essentially guarantees that their stock gets used up and replenished all the time, meaning it's going to be fresh. Look up a reputable sushi restaurant in your area and you'll be fine.

  4. Salmon is mild, has a soft texture.  If you can get it, red tuna. Surf clam is nice, too.  My favourite is a BBQ Eeel and avocado roll. Properly prepared sushi is not risky to eat.  Try going to a restaurant with friends so you can try a little of everything. Enjoy!

  5. i wouldn't like it. but my thirteen yr old granddaughter likes it. you can buy a small tray in tesco or asda, abd she seems to like it. it is not risky to eat.

  6. try everything! you never know what you'll like until you try it! there's different types of "sushi". you can go with simple pieces of fish on rice but a lot of gooood sushi places offer specialty rolls that tend to be super yummy.

  7. California roll is good. If you like smoked salmon, try a salmon roll.

  8. You might want to try maki before you start on sushi. People often mistake maki for sushi. Sushi = rice with fish on top, Maki = a little roll of rice and fish, wrapped in dried seaweed.

If you have never tried it, sushi might be overwhelming cause it's quite a huge chunk of raw fish you're eating, while maki is lighter to take and (to me) has more variation. I'd suggest you try Shaké Maki first, it's with salmon, they often give you wasabi and ginger with it.

Don't worry about getting sick, if you just choose a decent and hygenic place, there are no risks.

    Hope I helped!

  9. ive eaten it thousands of

times.. but if you arent so sure about

going all the way with raw fish..

try a California roll.. its crab meat.. not fish..

and if you like that.. then try something else that does contain the raw fish. :D

  10. California roll- I don't think there is anything raw in it, but that's not real sushi.

    Sooo, try spicy tuna roll.

  11. Alot of people get sick from just eating seafood so i think you won't get sick from sushi because you don't get sick from most seafood right?

  12. Start with the california roll.  The spicy tuna and dynamite rolls are good too.  Sushi is not just a piece of raw fish, it's small pieces fish/seafood (sometimes cooked and sometimes raw) rolled up in white rice and maybe some seaweed.

  13. if its fresh then its not risky at all. the fish used in sushi is more fresh then the fish you cook at home. Try Unagi, Ahi, and all kinds of rolls. Try them all, its all good. Some people that never tried it will not be use to the taste, but once you eat it and eat it more and more, you'll grow to love it! Its a lot healthier then some other foods out there too.

  14. Try sashimi grade ahi tuna with a bit of wasabi on the side.

This is a delicate tasting fish which is a deep red color when thinly sliced.

It tastes nothing like regular tuna.

    It's actually very tasty!

  15. Sushi comes in many forms.

For cooked sushi, I would recommend

Unagi - (broiled eel with a soy sauce based glaze)

California Roll - (not real sushi, but quite common is cooked crab (sometimes surimi)

    Tako - Octopus

    Futomaki - Big Roll

    For Raw sushi, I'd recommend

    Tuna (Maguro/Toro)

    Salmon (Sake)

    Mackerel (Saba)

As to the health risk, if the place is well known and has a lot of customers then the chance of stuff sitting around getting old is minimal.

  16. shushi is odd, but if you want a really good dish, get shushimi. It's partly cooked.
