Question:

I NEED ADVICE, ESPECIALLY FROM SMOKERS?

I'm extremely addicted to cigarettes as i'm sure 99.9% of smokers are, but i make myself miserable by smoking too many cigarettes a day. I'll sit there and light a cigarettes when i don't want them, especially in a social enviroment. At first, they just don't really satisfy me and i know i didn't really want it but i still continue to smoke them. It gets to the point where i literally make myself sick. I get very bad nasioua and headaches. I've tried everything, even leaving them in the car so they're not right on hand. But still, even not wanting one at all, i go and just get one and leave the rest in the car, and repeat plenty more times. I'm just not content and not comfotable without one in my hand for a long period of time and i can never keep it off my mind long enough or eep myself busy long enough to get over the urge until i even actually want one. Please help. Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. I think that you just really like to smoke! It seems as though you are more addicted to smoking than you are to nicotine. So maybe you should try smoking cigarettes with less nicotine. This way you can continue to satisfy the cravings but get less nicotine, so you should feel less sick. What kind are you smoking now?


  2. You're not trying to quit, just not make yourself sick, right?

    One thing that helped me smoke a lot fewer cigarettes was to quit smoking in the house.

    It sounds like it's the habit of it that's making you smoke more than you really need to satisfy the addiction. Maybe try sunflower seeds, lollipops, or baby carrots between cigarettes. Something to replace that hand to mouth habit.

    Maybe switch to a lighter cigarette.

I saw that you also answered one of my questions and to this I can relate.  Leaving them in the car eventhough you're going to get them is a great idea.  Do this all the time.  If you smoke most while watching TV leave your cigarettes in your bag in the bedroom etc...!  It may seem like your getting up but you will not be getting as many because there not in your reach and life at times can keep you busy.  And the added exercise is a plus.  I am a nurse (yes nurses smoke) and there is such a thing as nicotine poisoning and that is what I think you are doing to yourself.  I was admitted to the hospital before and couldn't smoke.  The patches didn't help at all.  I liked the minty nicorette gum.  It was something I could put in my mouth and would help with the cravings.  Lets face it you and I as well as every smoker started this habit by choice, and your own willpower with a little support from whatever works best for you is a good place to start.  Remember to never quit..quitting.
