He was born blind and I dont work. I dont have any money and have charged milk and diapers on my credit card which has been maxed out. WIC wont accept us and he has Medicaid. I cant work because he is scared of other children so daycare is not an option they wont take care of him the way he needs too anyways.

I have waited almost 3 1/2 months for social security and I finally got a call. He was very rude and didnt know why he was calling me. Can I find out if my son is eligible?

I also want to start working a part time job how will that affect his eligibility? I am 10 thousand dollars in debt I dont receive any help. I just say wth i paid hundreds to social security and they cant help me. Does anyone know where I can get help? I live in Dallas,Texas

  1. Please, please, please contact a social security attorney.  They charge nothing, if you win, the social security department will pay him.  Bring any letters you have received from social security to him, also any and all medical records.  This will save time and money.  He will charge you if he has to get the medical records, for you they are free.  So this first thing Monday morning.!

  2. If your child is 2-3 years old, you should contact the school system to get help for disability.  They should have programs that help before school starts.  They may be able to help with daycare as well.

I'm not sure what you can get for disability but you need to talk with a social worker to see what programs you are eligible for.  I would go on-line to blind support groups.

    Good luck!

  3. Your working will not affect your sons eligibility.

You have to go to your social security office, to get the forms you'll need to fill out, to get the process started.  You should be able to talk to someone or make an appointment there at the SS office.

It seems to me that you should be receiving some benefits for yourself and your son.  If you haven't checked that out yet, I suggest you call Social Services and make an appointment to talk with them.  If for no other reason, they should be able to help with the special services your son is going to need.

Don't say he can't go to Day Care when there may be a Day Care suited for his needs.  There are services out there that you probably don't even know about.  That's why I say, start with Social Services.  Your son may be missing out on some good programs, along with yourself.

The person from the SS office may not have known why he was calling you.  Besides being rude, did you talk to him at all?  Have you filled out any paper work for Social Security Disability?

Right now, you should be very busy finding out what your son may be eligible for from both Social Services and Social Security Disabilities.  Lots of phone calls, lots of appointments.

Because you payed into Social Security, doesn't mean you're going to get back so quickly.  They can't help you if you're not doing the work.

  4. He may be denied up to 3 times but keep going back! He will be approved. As far as you working make sure you stay within the income level. We went over and now i owe them.

  5. It takes a long time to get approved for SSI.  Here is a link to  some websites that may help. http://www.weblocator.com/attorney/tx/la...    http://www.dars.state.tx.us/dbs/bcp.shtm...

    http://www.tapvi.org/Resources.html

You are in a bad situation.  I would check out all these links, call everyone and try to get immediate financial help, find organization that provides daycare and get a job.  Wishing you the best to you and your son

  6. I would think Dallas would have a legal aid - they helped me with my disability claim - they were a big help - and they don't charge - so when I got approved and got my back pay, I got all of it -Dallas is a big city and there has to be something there to help you out.  If your son is on medicaid do you also get welfare - welfare offices often have lists of agencies that help people out with a number of different things - talk to your case worker.

    Why won't WIC help you?

wish I could be of more help, I don' live in Dallas so I don't know where things are - but even the "backwards" state I live in has some pretty good resources.  You just have to find them. I would suggest calling the welfare office and getting a list of agencies that help people out.

If your son gets denied, it's really important to get the appeal in within the time frame they give you - otherwise you have to start all over again.  And when he does get approved you'll get $ back to when you 1st applied.  Really try to find a legal aid - they are very good and you get all of the money. Does Dallas have a school for the blind?
