I Need Help With College Applications?

I'm a Senior in High School this year and I plan on attending college. I've missed school on and off for about a year so my grades weren't all that great...Okay...they were worse than worse. But last trimester I returned full time and I got A's && B's. This year I have to take both the SATs && the ACTs. I guess my real question is.. When I apply to colleges/universitys is it best I score high on my Tests, or is there no hope for me at all?

  1. There is hope for you!

Now, I'll be honest with you--  I don't know what your GPA is and I don't know how high you're aiming, but if it's as bad as you say, you may not get into your top college choice. I'm not suggesting you shouldn't apply to your dream school, but don't be too surprised if you don't get in.

One option is to spend two years at a community college, and THEN transfer to a four-year school. Work hard and get really good grades.  That will prove to them that you're capable of doing college work, and they may overlook your high school GPA. (You'll save a lot of money on tuition, too.)

The community college thing is also a good strategy because by the time you're ready to transfer, your grades from senior year of high school will be on your transcript. (If you're applying to colleges during senior year, your final senior grades won't yet be available.) So hopefully, you will have pulled your grades up enough this year to show that you're taking school more seriously and have improved.

A lot of colleges don't take the SAT/ACT quite as seriously as they used to, but a really good score would make your application look a lot better.
