Question:

I Need Help With Posting !?

Any tips on helping me to post the trot better?

The horse I'm riding is actually part TWH/ part QH so although he trots, he is kinda rough. Either way though, I've been riding for a long time but this is the first time I've switched to English and I'm TERRIBLE at posting!

Any advice is welcome! Or any kinds of exercizes that will help build up my muscle strength for posting and English riding in the future.

I'm hoping to be able to jump my 5 year old TWH/QH gelding. He's a great boy and I want to make sure I'm working as hard as he is at learning to ride English!

Any advice/tips are welcome. Thank you!!

  1. Make sure your stirrups are at the right length and try to lift only a little and then rotate your hips forward alittle.

For an exercise try taking you feet out of the stirrups and then post . it's really hard and tiring but it will help alot

It took me a long time to get it right  but once you get it it come naturally when your horse begins trotting.

  2. i learned just stay on the left diogonal and sit one to switch diogonals   if  your horses dosnt jump already i wouldnt try traning him myself

  3. I am 37 years old and have always rode without posting since I was a little girl. I have done rodeo, cattle penning, and just pleasure riding. I always was embarrassed to post when riding, I guess because most everyone I rode with never did. The last few years, since I met this trainer that has become a good friend, I have worked on my posting. I won't say I do it 100% correctly, but it sure does feel much more comfortable when working my horses. It has to be much more comfortable for my horses as well. I think you should just take the advice from these people who have a lot of experience and just give it a lot of practice. It does become more comfortable the more you do it. Good luck, be safe, and have fun! :)

  4. remember dont rise too high this is a problem with most begginers.

    Rising Too High:

This is a common problem because people seem to have been taught that they must sit upright in rising trot and execute a 'clear rise'.

This method of rising trot has a lot of disadvantages, which should be understood. The hands and arms very often go up and down the same distance as the upper body. The rider may well be trying to keep her hands still, but they are usually kept still in relation to the riders body, whereas they need to be kept still in relation to the horse's mouth, which stays fairly level in trot. If the rider's balance is poor, the reins may even be used as an anchor, increasing the horse's discomfort.

The amount of thrust that some people put into the rising trot very often causes stiff ankles and raised heels as the rider pushes up with every stride. These are usually accompanied by lower legs and feet which flap out and in again as the rider rises and sits. The horse feels this as a leg aid at every stride and may whiz around far too fast or, conversely, simply ignore it, giving the false impression that he is by nature dull or lazy.

    good luck.

rising trot is just one of those things you HAVE to master to almost PERFECTION if you want do be a sucsessful dressage rider

    THINK ELEGANT!!!

have fun while your at it and good luckk

  5. I no how you feel !!

Make sure everything is in place! That would be sturrip length, really.

One saying that made me come SO FAR in posting is "rise and fall with the leg on the wall". It helps so much!! So every time you get confused just say that and it all makes scenes!!

If you dont get what the meaning means....

it means to rise when your horses leg (the outside one, closest to the wall) is out, or taking stride. Go up, when that leg is under your horse be sitting!!

    I hope i helped!!

    good luck!!!

  6. Ok I hope this helps.

How long are your stirrups? Are they dressage length or more jumping length. It is quite hard to post with jumping ones so if your stirrups are too short that could be a problem but also lengthening your stirrups too much too soon will also cause you to bump and flap around a bit.

Make sure you sit up straight (although I'm sure you do) and have strong stomache muscles and just general good posture. Make sure your on the right diagonal (sit when the inside leg comes back) and try to move as much as you can in sync with the horse. Try to find the rhythm although that can be hard with a jolting trot.

It takes practise mainly and strong muscles. In your legs and your stomache. I can't think of any excersizes off the top of my head but make sure you don't grip with your knees.

Just try to go with the flow of your horse.

  7. I love the trainer clinton anderson so this is what he does. first of all make sure you have the right length for posting you don't want them long or too short. You don't want to have to reach for your sturrips but at the same time, you don't want to propel yourself into the air. Start at the walk and say up at the same time you go up and down when you go down. Your body tends to follow what you say. Just practice saying up/ down at the walk. When you can follow your voice on cue, start the trot. You will not be in sync witth the horse at first but if you keep say up and down and posting, you will eventually match the horse's rythm.

Make sure your legs are under you because if they aren't, you will have a very hard time going up. just to see what i mean, next time you ride, put your legs more forward and try to post. Its gunna be hard. If you have them under you, it will make it easier to post.

  8. If your horse has a rough trot you can make that work to your advantage. Let the horse do some of the work for you and let him help bring you up and forward. Try to post more forward rather than posting up.

  9. Okay, I know thisis probably not he answer you wish to hear, but really the best way is just to practice. you will get it eventualy

A way you can practice off the horse, is to look up some exercises to strengthen your leg mucles
