  1. You have to develop a consistent putting stroke in order to putt well. So get to a practice green and work on that stroke. Have it be as smooth as possible. Bring your club as far back as you are going to swing forward. Get a feel for distance and work your way back with shorter and shorter putts until you can putt 4 three foot putts into the hole without a miss. Then start all over again with the same routine. Get used to trying to get distant putts as close to the hole as possible. In this manner you will avoid three putts which generally are score killers.

  2. You sound like me. All you have to do is find a putting routine and stance that is comfortable for you then practice putting on different greens, this will give you the different angles and speed of greens.

    Have a good one...

  3. Try these excersies on a real putting green:

    1.Goalie

put a tee in front of the hole and try to knock that tee.

    2.Goals

put two tees on each front-side of the hole and try to hole it in without touching the tees

    Hope this helps

    THANKS!

  4. Learn and exercise.

Choose a right club and be patient!

  5. Get your putting stance correct. my trick that always works is to line up the words or picture on the ball with the hole. And line up the puter exactly with the words and hit it sofly.

  6. In putt-putt or Mini Golf you have borders for each hole, so if you hit it to hard there, it will rebound back toward you or the hole.

On the course, there are no borders, so distance control is everything.

Also, you have to learn to read greens to be able to read subtle breaks

and bends. Most holes bend towards the water, 99% of the time.

Another thing to consider is the way the green is cut, or the grain of the grass as it sits, between your ball and the hole.

    My tip for putting practice:

Try to find a spot on the practice green that will not interfere with other golfers. Place a white tee in the ground on a small break or hill. Take 5 balls and place them around the hole at three feet. Putt each ball until you hit the tee 5 times in a row, starting over if you miss. Then move out to 5 feet, placing the 5 balls around the hole. After you hit the tee 5 times in a row, then move to 8 feet and repeat then to 12 feet.

After doing this you will notice that you will be able to control distance better and even start to one putt those mid range putts 10-15 feet.

Below url is a good place for information for reading greens.

  7. Find a good book on putting.  I like Dr. Bob Rotella

"Putting out of your Mind".  It deals with both the physical skills , pracice routines and the mental side of putting.  Good luck.

  8. Clear your mind line it up and just hit it. The more you think the worse off you are!
