  1. I would say for Sweeney Todd, maybe dark pants and shoes with a white shirt, dark tie, a dark vest, and a dark trench coat. For Ms. Lovett, I would say dark dresses with black lace and maybe something like a corset with the dresses (not an actuall corset-that would hurt-but just something that would look like one-e.i. See the movie version for what I mean). In A nutshell just go dark with the costumes.

  2. Sketch out your ideas on paper, and then refine them. They don't have to be terrific stand-alone art pieces on paper, just as long as you can imagine what the costume will look like finished.

Then, get the sizes of your actors/models/whatever you're doing it for. Then, search a few stores (even thrift) if there are basics you can buy (suspenders, pants, buttoned shirt, etc.) For more specified stuff (a gothic, old London dress) you could try a Renaissance fair or find somebody who knows how to make patterns and sew.

Best of luck! Just be creative and don't give up.

    EDIT:

Of course, Mrs. Lovett doesn't HAVE to have a dress like in the Tim Burton movie. That's just one approach.

  3. You could look up pictures of the costumes online and make them from scratch that way. I did that and it came out pretty good.

  4. I was Mrs. Lovett for Halloween last year! I asked for others oppion on Y-Answer with a detailed discription of my coustume (which everyone LOVED)

But I must warn you that mine was an exact mimic of the costume Angela Lansbury wore as Mrs. Lovett in the 1985 Broadway production of Sweeney Todd. If your looking to mimic Helena Bonham Carter's costume from the 2007 film then I will be of no help. However if that is not the case fell free to email me if you need any more help puting your costume together.

    =)

  5. she would probably have on a black corset over a dark colored shirt, with puffy short sleeves. a layered skirt dark colors and long. she might even have an apron on. fish nety gloves. and her hair up out of yher face, but very messy

  6. well for each character you just can buy stuff in a store

    for sweeney:

pin striped navy blue pants and a side buckle

a white button victorian mans shirt

    a dark brownish grayish vest

    dark shoes

    for mrs.lovett:

    a corset

    a dress with sleevew

    furry red material

    yellow beads

    red stockings

    boots

    an apron

wire for under the dress (bodice like)

you can find most of these items at stores like marshalls or there is this really cool place called costume world( website is costumeworld.com)which has a lot of victorian 19th century type stuff. or ebay is another great place to get the costumes i have found mrs.lovett costumes(including one from her dream sequence in "by the sea") and sweeney todd items too!

    For make up for sweeney

create dark hallow eyes w/ brown eyeshadow and maybe liner. and create a pale face look

    for make upe for MRs.lovett

make it look like she rolled out of bed with it on

    like uneven eyeliner

    or

go for the all pale look and sunken in eyes for her too

    Hair for sweeney

now depending on which version(movie or play) :

movie- get a black wig spray paint a white streak

    play-get a brown rustic wig

    hair for mrs.lovett

movie- buy curly long wig and bobby pin into messy pig tails

play- buy a blondish orangish colored wig and make too little devil horn

For more on the hair for mrs.lovett

    google

    helena bonham carter sweeney todd

    then

    angela lansbury sweeney todd

  7. For Sweeney I would go with tan pants with suspenders and a white button down shirt.

Ms. Lovett I would go with a dark color gown in old times.

  8. Try black pants and matching suspenders with a white button down shirt. The makeup should be older-looking, so gray the hair and add false wrinkles. For Ms. Lovett we used an oversized plaid button down shirt with a dark heavy skirt and full length apron. Both people should be stained or unproper looking. Check Goodwill or Saint Vincent de Paul stores for bargains on costumes.
