I have a 27.5" draw, and can pull up to 70lbs and want a good 80% relief. I've done some research, but I have not done much with bows or bow hunting in years. A little here and there, but the new stuff is new to me. I want to stay under $250 if possible, and still get some good equipment like sights and a good arrow rest that drops out for clean release. I also want to keep it up to 300 fps or more on the ratings because they all pad some it seems, at least 270 fps actual with a broad head and real arrow. Thanks for any help.

  1. I buy bows rarely, I went from a 15 year old High Country that was an excellent bow at the time to a Used mathews and I love that little bow. Im not saying there arent bows out there jsut as good, I just like that one alot.

  2. Sticker shock aint the word for it.   But I agree that you need to find a good archery shop and look at new and used.  The lowest price for a new bow would be about $330, and that probably isnt including any kinda 'package' (usually includes a sight, rest and sometimes quiver/arrows).

I bought a used Mathews on eBay a few years ago, but would advise against buying anything on that site if you dont know a lot about the products.

Bear and Reflex and PSE offer the lowest priced bows.  Test shoot a few to see what you like.  I'd also consider upping your price range if you are really into archery.  Investing more of your disposable income into hobbies you love is always warrented IMHO.

  3. i believe that the best bows i have shot and there are on earth are my bows not to brag. but my matthews drenalin 2 is so smooth fast quiet and still and deadly accurate and my pse x force is so fast so solid so deadly flat and not to mention "if looks could kill" and i clocked my pse in at 305 fps using 450 grain arrows including the 125 grn muzzy m-x4's AKA the barbed spears and my matthews at 305 using the same arrows (easton fmj's) and 125 grn magnus snuffer ss broad heads and i have made full pass through s on deer at 50 yards and penetration through both sides at 70 yards

  4. I shot a Mathews but you can get a PSE for alot leas that is about the same so I would say PSE.

  5. I can see you are going to suffer from sticker shock when you start your search. But this is what you need to do - go to an archery shop that takes bows as trade ins and you will have a selection to choose from. you can get some good deals on bows 2 to 4 years old that are just as good as some of the later models. The savings can be substantial.

  6. I do not believe staying under $250 dollars is possible. For quality bow and accessories maybe $600 to $700.

    Good Luck.
