I had put my bike in the back yard and it recently rained hard. As you my expect the foot stand sunk into the ground making my bike lay flat for a couple of days i mean two days. I was told that i couldnt start it cause the oil or fluids went into the parts and that it would mess up my bike if i did. Is this true or is the mechanic trying to take my money? any suggestions. its a 06 kawasaki ninja 500r

  1. It pays to have a wooden or metal plate on hand to slip under the side stand,  spreading the load.  That is providing when wet,  the ground does not  become quicksand.

Useful if you cant park on cement.

If you have a bag on your bike you can also slip it in there while riding in case you stop on soft ground.

  2. Let it sit upright for a few hours first (hopefully already done).  Check the fluid levels.  Try starting it, listen to how it runs.  If it makes any strange noises, kill it immediately.  Otherwise, let it run for a little bit, and, after a while, try driving it around your driveway, then cautiously around the neighborhood.  Just remember, if it makes funny noises, stop right there and take it to the shop.  Also, if you can't get it to start, take it to the shop!

  3. The only thing that could be a problem is if the oil drained past the rings & some of it is now sitting on top of the piston..   when you try to start the bike , the oil wont compress & that can bend the con-rod..

remove the spark plugs from the bike & turn the motor over with the starter motor...   put them back in & the bike should run fine..

  4. Im going with shooter on this one

  5. Shooter is right. Just check the oil level after its been upright and fire it up and ride it like you stole it.

  6. Stand it back up, wash it off and let is sit for a day.  The oil will drain back down.

If you have any desire to, you can pull the plugs and see if they have been fouled or if there is a lot of oil present.

    You're bike will be fine.

  7. shooter is right save your money

  8. Its best to do what the mechanic says. It's better off to be safe than sorry. Get what I'm goin for bro?

  9. Above is no BS. Also, if your battery leaked onto your brain (CDI), it is fried. If not, be sure to install new spark plugs.

  10. Sort of true but not as drastic as your mechanic has made it out to be! First thing to do is check the oil level, how much if any has been lost?Oil is only gonna creep into your bore and possibly your carby /manifold area! Take out your plug, remove airbox and examine it! If it's got oil in it clean it up! You may have to remove your manifold from the case but is reasonably simple to do! Kick or crank it over to remove any oil in bore! Put her back together and start it. There are no other fluids to worry about! Your cooling system is enclosed and cannot escape unless damaged! I haven't worked on a cbr specifically, but this is generally the same procedure for all small engines!
