Have fun with a Shrek Ball Party or a Shrek Swamp party. You can mix the ideas to make your own version of the party whichever way you like.

    Ball Party

    Invitations:

Use thin, aged looking paper to make your invitations. Write the party details in calligraphy writing. Let the ink dry and roll into a scroll. Tie with a piece of twine or ribbon.

    Write:

Here ye, Here ye! (name) requests your presence at the royal ball to take place in the Land of Far, Far Away (address)

Travel to our land on (date) at (time).

Princess or ogre attire is optional.

Or you can use ready made Shrek Invitations

    Decorations:

Give your party area a Medieval look by hanging banners. Write: Welcome to the Land of Far, Far Way or (birthday child's name)'s Ball.

Set the tables with jewel tone colored tablecovers and partyware.

Use the same colors for balloons and streamers.

Use large plastic goblets filled with decorative gems for centerpieces.

Make large shield cut outs out of cardboard. Wrap in aluminum foil and paint on a crest. Set around the party area for additional decorations along with some children's plastic sword. Pair a couple of crossed swords on the wall for decoration as well.

Set out a bubble machine, if you have one, for the Fairy Godmother's Bubbles.

Any Medieval type decorations will work for this theme's decor. Knight's head armor, crowns, jeweled tiaras, sprinkle metallic table confetti on the tables, use silver plated trays, a crystal like punch bowl, etc.

    Goodie Bags and Prizes:

Fill a large plastic goblet for the ball theme or use a green paper sack for the swamp theme. Fill with a beaded necklace (girl), small bottle of bubbles(you can use the small, white wedding favor ones), glow in the dark eyeball balls, silly putty, green Gooze, green sour punch straws, Shrek fruit snacks,Shrek playdoh, potion candy , water snake, gummi worms.

    Cake:

For either theme make a dirt and mud cake. Bake a sheet cake and frost with chocolate frosting. Sprinkle the top with a large amount of crumbled Oreo cookie crumbs. Add some gummi worms to the top. Bury some under the cookie crumb "dirt".

    Cupcakes:

You can also make individual portions on cupcakes, using the same recipe above for the cupcakes. Or Tint white frosting a lime green color and add some gummi worms on top.

    Food and Snacks:

    Pigs in a blanket.

    Chiken drumsticks with green ketchup.

    Lime sherbert.

Serve sparkling apple cider in the plastic goblets.

Make Shrek cookies from the Shrek cookie kits (Walmart or Target).

Let kids make their own hot "sludge" sundaes. Use vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and some gummi worms on top.

    Games and Activities:

Pin the tail on Donkey (either theme).

Sword in the Stone (for the ball theme). Cut a block of styrofoam into the shape of a stone. Paint grey. Use cocktail swords to insert into the styrofoam "rock". Mark one of the swords in advance. The one who picks the marked sword wins.

Slay the Dragon (ball theme). Print out and enlarge a picture of the dragon or draw one onto posterboard. Mark a bullseye on your picture. Use a child's play bow and arrow set to have the kids take turns trying to hit the bullseye. Closest to the bullseye wins.

Cupcake Walk. Use character markers for this game. Print out pictures of the characters (ie. Princess Fiona, Puss in Boots, Donkey, Prince Charming, Gingy, etc.) onto cardstock. Arrange the pictures in a circle on the ground. Make enough markers for everyone. Write the characters names on small pieces of paper and put into a jar, basket, box, etc. Music plays and everyone moves to the marker ahead until the music stops. Everyone should be on a marker. Draw a name, guest standing on corresponding marker wins and is out of the game. Game continues until every child has won. Use mud/dirt cupcakes for the prize.

For the swamp theme try these suggestions:

    Decorations:

Hang moss(craft store) on the walls and lay out on the tables.

Use green and orange balloons, streamers, and partyware. Or use Shrek themed party ware.

Fill a kiddie pool(s) with water and tint water green for a miniature swamp pool.

Make and posts signs that say, "Shrek's Swamp....No Trespassing....Beware of Ogre, etc."

    Food and Snacks:

Guacamole and Chips - slime and chips.

    Green jello - slime.

Chicken Strip on a Stick - Fried Lizard on a Stick.

    Onion rings with green ketchup.

Chocolate pudding cups with Oreo cookie crumbs - mud and dirt cups.

    Frozen grapes - eyeballs.

Chocolate covered pretzels and fruit - sludge covered snacks.

Putrid Punch. You need 1 .13 ounce package of unsweetened kool-aid, 1 cup sugar, 8 cups water, 1 can frozen orange juice concentrate, 4 cups gingerale, and orange sherbert. Empty kool-aid into punch bowl. Add sugar and water. Stir until dissolved. Stir in juice. Just before serving, add gingerale and, if desired, ice cubes with gummi worms frozen inside. Float scoops of sherbert on top. This recipe serves 14.

    Games and Activities:

Make and decorate your own Gingy gingerbread men. Use prebaked cookies or let kids use a cookie cutter shape to draw and cut out of fun foam. You can also purchase wood cut outs in the shape. Let kids paint and decorate then glue a string or ribbon to the top to make an ornament or attatch a piece of sticky back magnetic strip to make a magnet.

Make your own Magic Potions. Use powdered candies (Pixie Stix) and use small plastic jars for kids to pour and mix to make their own powdered magic potions.

Rescue Princess Fiona. Hide a small doll or figure or plush. Set up clues on objects to lead to the princess. Let the kids search as a one group or make two teams. Put clues on a plastic goblet, crown, set of ogre ears, pair of black boots, cat dish, or "poison" apple.

Play hot potato using an onion (cause ogres have layers)

Make green slime. Use 1 part liquid starch ,2 parts Elmer's Glue, and green food coloring. Mix and enjoy

Make ogre ears or princess crowns.

Greet Everyone at the door with their very own pair of Ogre Ears. Make them before the party but wait to secure the ends until the children arrive for proper fit.

You'll need large sheets of light and dark green craft foam or construction paper, craft glue or a hot glue gun, glitter glue or a glitter pen and a stapler.

Cut two ears, two small triangles for the inside of the ears and a long strip for the head band. Attach the small triangles to the ears with a glue gun then attach the ears to the head band. With the glitter pen, write the guests name on the front. Staple the ends of the head band together when the children arrive.

For princess crowns purchase paper tiaras in your party supplies section and let the girls decorate using sequins, glitter glues, etc. Or use this pattern to cut out of cardstock.

  9. hi there,

    Party decoration ideas:

Hang bright green, gold and purple balloons and streamers,

As with any party, how extravagantly you decorate depends on your time and budget. I've listed a few suggestions:

-- Poster board cut and decorated to look like castle windows

-- A poster on the Door saying: Welcome to the land of Far Far Away

--Cut out poster board to look like Shrek and Fiona's carriage (garlic clove).

-- Shrek 3 items are easy to find right now...purchase posters and toys to use for decorations and then they can be played with later.

--Cover your table with a bright yellow table cloth. Scatter green sequins all around the top. Run strips of green and purple streamers down the center to create a table runner.

    Shrek birthday party ears:

(pass out to each kid (with their name written on it)

    You'll Need:

Large sheets of light and dark green Craft Foam

    or construction paper.

Craft glue or a hot glue gun.

Glitter glue or a glitter pen

    Stapler

Cut two ears, two small triangles for the inside of the ears and a long strip for the head band. Attach the small triangles to the ears with a glue gun

Then attach the ears to the head band with the glue gun.

With the glitter pen, write the guests name on the front.

Staple the ends of the head band together when the children arrive or cut slits like in the picture.

    Games:

Pin the Wings on the Donkey:

Just like Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but you'll need to make wings with construction paper or craft foam sheets. Enlist an artistic teen to draw a Dronkey on poster board ... they are much cuter that the donkey in the traditional game.

    Prince Charming Tag:

Designate a Prince Charming. That player will wear a crown.

When you say go...the children will try to catch the Prince.

Be sure to change the prince often and to insist the children play kindly.

    Cupcake Walk :

Let guests draw and color a picture of their favorite Shrek character on squares of heavy paper (approx. 12” x 12”). Tape the squares to the floor in a circle, using one fewer than the number of participants. The birthday child gets to help you start and stop the music at appropriate times during the game. When the music starts, the kids walk from square to square—and when the music stops, the person left without a square is out of the game but gets a Down & Dirty Cupcake treat. Play continues until one player is left. Award a prize to the winner, along with a tasty cupcake

    Find the True King:

Create a treasure hunt to find the true king, using some of the fun puns and characters in the movie. Each clue will lead to another, until the players end at a picture of the true king and their hidden party favors. Cut images and glue them onto 3x5 cards with the clue written on the card Suggested images: Snow White, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Fiona, Donkey, knights armoire, sword etc.

    1-10 trivia:

Have your guests number a piece of paper from 1-10, and then ask them different questions about Shrek’s adventures. The one with the most answers right, wins!

    Gingerbread Man cookies (gingy):

Gingerbread Man cookies! Have the kids decorate them as they cool, and then enjoy!

    Magic Potion:

Make your own Magic Potions.Use powdered candies (Pixie Stix) and use small plastic jars for kids to pour and mix to make their own powdered magic potions.

    Finding Fiona:

Rescue Princess Fiona. Hide a small doll or figure or plush. Set up clues on objects to lead to the princess. Let the kids search as a one group or make two teams. Put clues on a plastic goblet, crown, set of ogre ears, pair of black boots, cat dish, or "poison" apple.

    Hot onion:

Play hot potato using an onion (cause ogres have layers)

    Food Ideas:

    -- Pigs in a blanket

-- Chicken drumsticks with green ketchup

    --Lime sherbert

-- Green sparkling apple cider serve in plastic goblets

-- Guacamole and chips (call them slime and chips)

    -- Green jello (slime)

-- Chicken strip on a stick (called fried lizard on a stick

-- Onion rings with green ketchup

    --  Frozen grapes (eyeballs)

--  Corn puffs ( shrek's deep fried ear wax)

    --   Mountain Dew (swamp juice)

-- swamp dip ~ make any dip just add green food coloring

    Putrid Punch:

    1 (13 oz) package of unsweetened kool-aid

    1 cup sugar
