I have a 40 HP Mariner 2 stroke engine and I put "Multigrade Motoroil 20w/50 oil" into it - I asked this question before, only I made an accident with the identification. Will that oil be OK?

  1. No problem.

  2. That's purity THICK oil... unless your in a really hot area I would change it .. or if your motor is burning oil it might be OK..

    Good luck

  3. One tank full will not harm the engine provided that the fuel / oil ratio is correct. Don't add any more oil to the batch. The only problem with continuing to use this mixture for multimple tanks fulls would be some carbon buildup. For years people used regular oil before the 2-stroke oil were devepoled.

  4. No drain the tank it will knacker the reed valves when the engine gets hot.  The oil in the fuel will go to thick and give you the wrong mixture. We have got Mariners from 25hp to 300hp.

The max viscosity for two stroke oil is 30W no more. Never ever use multigrade oil. Mind you! you can use the fuel in the car it will smoke a bit.

  5. 2 stroke oil has very low additives so it burns cleanly, multigrades have all sorts of anti-wear additives. The biggest problem is likely to be fouled spark plugs, which could be embarrassing. I would drain it and put the right oil in if I was going more than padding distance from land.
