  1. tell your mother that hamsters are very clean animals.

in fact, they hate being dirty.

they're cheap, and the food and bedding isn't very costly.

you just have to make sure you clean the cage at least once a week,

and keep their water and food bowl fresh.

I only have to purchase a new bag of bedding once a month,

    which costs twelve dollars.

and food, I only have to purchase once every six months, which costs about twelve dollars as well.

you can buy hamster treats for as little as a dollar,

and most hamster treats can be found in your kitchen already,

such as apples, grapes, uncooked (unsweetened) oatmeal, and carrots.

they are very quiet, and if taken care of, they rarely, if ever, bite.

the are nocturnal, however, so you will hear its wheel spinning at night.

you can fix that problem though, because they make silent wheels now.

a hamster is a great pet.

    they're quiet, they're cheap, and they're adorable.

  2. Ok, this happened to me, too! What you need to do is a well-researched report on hamsters and what they need to live, how they don't smell (they groom themselves!) much if you clean the cage once a week. It is not hard to convince them. I did it and my parents used to think that hamsters were dirty little rats, but now they love my little bundle of fur! If they think that they will give you diseases, just say that wild mice and rats have illness because they have eaten our garbage and been outside, fending for themselves. Captive-bred hamsters have never had the chance to sample the local dump! I hope this helps!

  3. the only way a hampster stinks is if you don't clean the cage.. tell your mom that if you don't clean the cage every week that you will find another home for it.. also since she fears them tell her you won't take it out unless your room door is closed.. compromise with her and when she see's you handled it like an adult she will let you have the hampster

  4. Hamsters are pretty boring... you'll get bored of the little furry creature anyways, even if you say that you won't... you will. Espeacially if you've already had a turtle. You WILL WANT TO GET RID OF YOUR HAMSTER IN LIKE 1 YEAR IF THAT. But, there are alot of better choices, like chinchillas, degus, sugar gliders, leapord geckos, etc. Now that's just my opinion on teens like me who get hamsters... but if you really want one than i would say... give your mom like aLOT of support on her body and attitude, bring up how shes this and that and keep begging her, BUT not too much... or bring up a different creature you want, INSTEAD of a hamster. Hope that helped...

  5. Hamsters are great pets.  If your mom ends up letting you get one, make sure you get a quiet wheel for it if its staying in your room - a squeaky wheel will keep you up all night.  Tell your mom that hamsters are nocturnal and that it will be sleeping all day in it's house - so she won't have to see it.  Hamster cages can get smelly if you don't get the right bedding or leave it uncleaned for too long.  Promise your mom that you will clean the cage weekly.  Also, try talking to your dad privately about wanting a hamster.  If he is willing to let you get one, than have him talk to your mom about it.  Having him ask rather than you could work.  My mom HATES rats and most rodents, but she ended up loving our hamster.  Don't pester your mom constantly about getting one, that can only make things worse.  You seem like you really want one so my guess would be that your mom will eventually cave in.  Good luck.  Here's some tips if you do get your hamster:

Like I said earlier, try to get a wheel that is quite.

Since you have a dog, keep the hamster on something off the ground.  Make sure the cage is secure too.  You wouldn't believe how many stories there are of dogs hurting/killing pet hamsters.

Don't get pine bedding.  Get soft bedding like carefresh.  Watch out for weird brands of bedding too... they can be dangerous.

    Once again, good luck!

  7. they eat their young, so if you get one make sure its not pregnant, otherwise you'll have nighmares after you see it making a meal of its babies.  get another turtle

  9. I was 13 when I finally convinced my mom to get a hamster. My hamster passed away two days ago, though. I've had her for a year and a half.

Here's the key. Just tell your mother that they are NOTHING like rats. Rats have ugly long tails, and big feet. Hamsters have cute stubby tails with little feet. Plus, they are more cuddly and playful. Tell your mom to think of them as little puppies (they really are that way), and that they are noctornal, so she if she goes into your room, she'll only see a ball of fur in the bedding ^-^. Make a deal with your mom that you'll keep the animal in your room, away from her sight, and that you'll clean the cage often. Also, keep the hamster in the cage if your dog is around. Explain your knownledge and research to your mother, and I'm sure she'll finally say yes.

Also, make sure you use either Pine or Aspen bedding SHAVINGS, not chunks. They are as natural as it gets for a hamster's environment, and paper bedding is bad because it can claim to be dust-free, but it really isn't. My hamster had to get treatment and medication because Carefresh bedding dust got in her eye. Good Luck! ^-^
