  1. Hi,

I've done some adopt-a-village work in India in the Melghat tribal region four or five years ago -- and it's awesome; but the logistics are staggeringly difficult.  For the last few years I've been volunteering for opportunities with "Adopt-a-Village International".  Website:  www.adoptavillageinternational.org.  We have no paid staff -- only volunteers.  We're working at some highly leveraged and really satisfying  opportunities in Ecuador and Peru.  You would not believe the sort of third-world poverty one finds there.  Check out the website, and if you'd like some more info, contact me at jackaavi@gmail.com.  I'll call you.  We're changing lives; we're saving lives, and we're really making a difference.  Connecting resources to opportunities:  offering a hand-up; not a hand-out.

  3. hmmm...it depends on what you want to do and how you want things to run...there are plenty of christian orgs out there, where you sponsor a child, which is actually sponsoring a villiage, but usually this money goed directly to christian missions such as a biblical education and churches...but some also goes to clothing, education, food, and vaccines...I would suggest, if that doesn't interest you, that you figure out your involvement level and make contacts in India...as sending supplies to India is extremely costly and will deplete your money on unnecessary shipping charges....it is always better to buy locally...which means you need verifiable and committed people/businesses on the ground in your location of choice. You will need to figure out what you want to accomplish, how to best accomplish it, and who you need to help you with it...since I don't know what you want to do specifically, I can't help you any more than that...but I will say that foreign peoples generally do not like outsiders coming in telling them that their workers and their materials are not sufficient....so I would try to use the local community as an asset and help them to gain experience in various skill sets...further, by purchasing locally, you are insuring that the local community benefits in several ways....

I am currently working in Accra, Ghana....digging wells, supplying vaccines and rebuilding houses....I wish you much success!!
