  1. The world of journalism is a small, intimate one. And news is often decided based on what interests the producers or editors.

It is not unexpected that NBC and MSNBC would spend all weekend memorializing Russert. He was a colleague, friend, mentor. They are not just reporting on the death of any public figure but of someone they intimately knew. Many of them witnessed his death on Friday. It's a bit traumatic! Talking and sharing his stories is also a way for them to deal with in the way they know how--by sharing with the American public through television.

He was also respected by the competition. He was considered the face of Sunday mornings. Not to mention, the sad coincidence that this is Father's Day weekend and Tim died while preparing for the show.

There are a lot of stations on television. If you don't want to hear more talk about him, you can switch to another channel.

  2. Look at it this way, if your friend, best buddy, co-worker died, you'd be doing the same thing, telling everyone how great they were.  respect the respect.

  3. You are probably not alone. Tim Russert was truly an outstanding journalist, but it is the nature of the media--especially 24 hour cable news--to overdue a tragic story.  When you add the fact that Russert was by all accounts a genuinely nice guy who was popular with others in the media, you can have predicted the kind of coverage he has gotten.
