if you made it official like signing over the title and everything then they cant come after you but if he just gave you money and took the car then its all on you buddy......well good luck

You don't say it, but I suspect you are asking because you either didn't sign the title over to him or you did and he didn't get it titled in his name.  If it is the former, it is still legally your car and you can be held liable. If it is the latter, it is his problem

Yes, if there was something wrong with the car and you neglected to tell them and that thing was the direct cause of the accident.

Also, you'd have to have money.  Being dead broke has its privileges :) lawyers won't waste too much time pursuing you if you have no money to give their client.

Hopefully you signed over the title and sent the DMV a release of liability notice, if so no they cannot.

If you haven't turned over the title and didn't send in the necessary paperwork, legally the vehicle is still yours.....
