I Started Training for swimming i want to know how i can compete?

i just turned 20 and i have been swimming since 5 on and off an i wanted to know what was the best route to take to become a competitive swimmer, is there anything other than college teams i can do or is that my only option

I'd suggest you go to the following web site for USA Swimming (also called USS).  The USS is the organizing and governing body for the US.

Read and scroll down the page and you'll be able to find a swim club near you.  You should be able to get quality coaching at a US sanctioned swim club.
