Freshman year- 2.7, no clubs, soccer team, switched from ghetto highschool to private college prep school, not easy.

Sophmore year- 3.8, photography club, student government club, co-directed school play.

Junior year- not there yet, planning on two AP classes, the rest regular. (keep in mind there still college prep). becoming president of photography club and the debate team. becoming treasurer of student goverment. directing school plays. (what else should i do?)

I'm also taking all four years of spanish. My second half of senior year I'll be a foreign exchange student in England. My teacher recommendations will be amazing, and as for the SATS im already getting a tutor. I fear my freshman year ruined my chances. I want to be a film director and over the summer I'll be taking a film camp program in either miami or new york (new york might be too expensive) I live in florida right now. Just overheard my mom telling my uncle she knows I have no chance but doesnt wanna crush my me.

  1. It doesn't matter what anyone on this forum, or your mother for that matter, has to say about you getting in or not. Only the admissions personnel at NYU can/will decide that.

If the answers you get on this forum tell you "you won't get in", then you're just waiting for an excuse not to try.

Do your best, follow your dream, and apply. You'll either get in, or you won't. There are no guarantees. So, give it all you've got and hope for the best. Or not.

  2. You sound like a good candidate for an NYU admission.  Go for it.  I got in with a decent but not great GPA; however, my SATs were the highest in my school and I had a lot of extracurriculars and good recommendations.  They really do look at the whole applicant.  The fact that you improved so much between freshman and sophomore year will actually help you more than if you were just "OK" both years.  Try to do some (I mean a lot of) community service if you haven't already.

  3. There wont be any problem.  Colleges like to see people who have changed.  They understand these people know what they want.  Just maintain your good grades now, try some volunteering,  admissions dig that stuff.   Get together a portfolio.  need anything else just ask.

  4. Quotes that have motivated me:

"I can is 100 times better than IQ."

"If you don't start today, you won't finish tomorrow."

"To guarentee success, act as if it were impossible to fail."

"Believe in something and it will happen."

  5. Go for it, belive in your self, even if it means a dissagrrement.

    HOPE

    PEACE

  6. you totally got a chance...if u cud hto try to get a 4.0

  7. Don't believe your mother, believe in your dreams. It sounds to me like you're working really hard to achieve your educational goals, and although your freshman GPA wasn't the greatest, it also wasn't the worst. If you keep up the good grades and stay involved in school activities, you should have a shot at getting into NYU. Another thing that looks good to colleges is to volunteer in your community.

Good luck!! You can do it!!

  8. First, none of us up here are NYU admissions counselors so we can't really answer your question. Why don't you contact one directly and ask them? It will be a MUCH more valid opinion than people up here who have no clue!

One small piece of advice I will give you -- instead of going to England for your exchange, why not go to a Spanish speaking country? Put that polish on your foreign language! Remember, language immersion is one of the biggest benefits of an exchange!

As for your freshman year grades -- if you continue to show such a huge improvement, I would see that as a positive and not a negative. However, that's just me and I'm NOT an admissions counselor!

Good luck and keep working hard!
