I Want 2 Be A Lawyer Abroad?

hi plz help i live in england now and would love to be a lawyer however i want to be a lawyer abroad as i dont want to live in england in later days. is this possible as i have my heart struck on canada or america . does this mean i would have to study over there or can i study here in england and then look for a job over there ?? PLZ HELP

  1. You can study there in England and later get your license to practice law either in Canada or US. You may be required to take some sort of qualifying exam in the other country, but  I'm not 100% sure of that.


  2. Note that it's very tough to transfer from England to Canada once you've qualified in England.  You may have to redo a whole year of law school and write up to 5 or 6 equivalency exams.  

    It's easier to transfer to the US.   I believe you're allowed the write the state bar in New York.

    If you're sure you want to move to Canada or the US, just go to law school there.  It will be much easier in the long run and save you a lot of time and frustration.   Note that both countries require an undergraduate degree as law is a graduate degree in both.  Technically, you can still get into some Canadian schools without having finished your undergraduate degree, but the percentage of students who are able to get in without a degree is extremely small (i.e. 2-5% of each class) and the schools are trying to fill this gap.   Most Canadian law schools, which for years have awarded LL.B.s, are now switching to J.D.s (as in the USA).
