  1. Don't buy syrians, chinese dwarf hamsters are so much cuter and males will happily share a cage! They're smaller so you wouldn't need a large cage either. I believe they also have less health problems and they won't be able to chew through cables or fabric like my friend's syrian hamsters have done. Also hurts less if they bite you because their teeth are so small.

  2. There are alot of advantages to syrians over other hamster.  They come in a bigger variety of colours and coat types.  They are easier to handle.  They are easier to house as they cannot eascape through the bars on an ordinary cage.  They are slower so easier to catch.

Syrians cannot live together.  You could get two separate cages and two syrians but that would be more work and the advantages of two are to watch them interact.

Dwarf hamsters can live together in same s*x pairs or groups (from the same litter or introduced very young.  Russian, winter white and roborovskis are very social.  Chinese dwarfs can sometimes be agressive so it is best to only house these in pairs never groups and be aware that they may need separating if their fighting gets serious.

You will have to decide what is more important to you.  The breed you like the most or to watch a pair interact and play together.

  3. Please don't listen to Ally, but it sounds like you know better already.

Syrians will eventually attack a sibling the same as foreign hamsters.

Your best bet would probably be a SAME s*x pair of dwarfs- either Roborovski or Russian.

They are less cuddly than Syrians, but more fun- I think- to watch.

Roborovski.net has a hamstercam if you want to see some little guys in action. :]

  4. I'm not giving a definite answer, but often animals like each other better if they are raised together from babyhood. Maybe buy two Syrian babies?

  5. get two cages

  6. Just get one Syrian.

  7. A lot of good answers here but you don't have to type your question with every word capitalised, it makes it so difficult to read!!

  8. You could get 2 cages but you aren't even supposed to keep them in the same room as they communicate using high frequency sounds that we can't hear and would drive each other crazy, I know this because I asked yesterday in a petstore, we are collecting  a syrian later. x

  9. Just do what you think is right for you.

  10. Defo dont get two syrians and keep them together as they will fight until one is dead. You could get two and keep them in diff cages. I agree about not keeping the cages close because i have two and when the cages were close i think the older one was getting a bit on edge but now they are still in the same room just farther apart and they are fine. Syrians are very cute and easy to tame, thats the good thing about them, dwarfs are better to keep together (although in y opinion you would need a pretty big cage to keep 2 in otherwise its cruel) but dwarfs arent as easy to tame, you can tame them but they need to be handled very often or they will start to bite again.

  11. You could get two little Russian Dwarf hamsters. They're just as cute and they love living in pairs.
