Question:

I Want to Recycle a Bunch of Cans, But I'm Not Sure How it Works or How Much $ I'll Get?

I have about four trashbags full of empty cans. I have a general idea of where the recycling place is (it's the company that takes your cans and gives you money....not the place where you take all of your recycled stuff and just put it in those giant green bins), but I have a couple questions:

1) What exactly do I do when I get there?

2) How much is each can worth (or if it's easier, each pound)?

and

3) Why don't they like it when people try to recycle crushed cans?

Any answers would be great even if you can't answer them all! Maximum love and respect! :)

  1. You can call ahead for price per pound. Some have different prices for crushed while others do not. I was told it depends on what the use is for... Easier to wash uncrushed cans is the difference. In big cities there are more than one place that takes these and their price paid varies even within each place by a cent or two a pound.  I found you need id when they pay you by cash some do issue you a check. Hope this helps.

  2. Take the cans to a recycling place.  IF more than one is in the vicinity you might call ahead to see what they are paying.

The price received for cans varies with the cost of aluminum.

    Pull in the place.

They will tell you where to put the cans to weigh in

They will tell you where to go in the facility to get the money.

I recently had 5 big green trash bags of cans and got about $10 hope that helps.

  3. You can get around 60 cents a pound for aluminum cans right now. 24 - 25 cans make a pound.Take them to a Salvage Yard to sell. Good luck and God bless.

  4. Aluminum was up to o.80 yesterday when I took some in.

  5. First, you have to live in a state that requires a deposit when purchasing cans/bottles.  If so, most of the major grocery stores should have facilities available to return the cans.

You just take the cans to the machines, insert them one at a time and collect your cash, which is typically $.05 a can ($.10 in Michigan).

If you don't live in the USA, then I have no idea.

  6. go to your nearest major supermarket
