I weight 130 lbs, 5' 7'' tall. I was just wondering if I could handle a motorcycle such as a 1982 Honda CB750F. The motorcycle weighs roughly 500 LBS. Could I control it, handle it safely? Thanks.

  1. I could handle mine off road through mud, rocks etc. and I'm not a big guy either. I also had to push start it every time.

  2. Sure you can.....you ought to still take a MSF course tho.

  3. If it is set up right, there is no reason you could not ride it fine.  if it falls over you may need help picking it up, but really, that's is true for most anyone with any bike.

  4. Yes, with out a doubt.  It is all about balance.  If you are off balance it doesn't matter how big you are, you ain't going to control it.  As for laying it over and needing help picking it up.  BS.  I have seen ladies pick up a bike that big by themselves.  You just have to learn how to do it.  There is a technique.

  5. I'd be very wary of that thing, be careful to keep it perfectly upright, and be careful when adding gas (because the gas tank is high and makes it top heavy when it's full).

It about 70hp as I recall.  More than my old fiat 128, which was 1300cc.

Unless you practice there is no way you will lift it if you drop though.  So, try not to drop. Like, check twice before you put it on the side-stand, that the side stand is full extended.  I was working on 400 awhile back, and tested it rolled back into the garage, kicked the stand down, so I started to lower to the left side, only the stand collapsed, (I had allowed it to roll forward a little) and it was all I could do to keep it upright. (Lucky I had crash bars on it.)

Bike 400lbs, me 320lbs. Not a fair match. So now I make sure...

  6. if you are an experienced rider it will make no difference a lot of the professional racers are that size. I would recommend a smaller motorcycle if is your first bike only because a 750 even an 82 still has a bit of power

  7. lay it down gently on some grass,if you cant pick it up by your self, you have no business riding it

  8. The bike is very well balanced when it is in motion.  So, it doesn't feel 500lbs when you are standing still with it or riding it.  IT is only 500lbs when you drop it onto the ground.

  9. <agrees with all dem goys.  Here's a test, howsomever.  Can you pick it up WHEN it falls over?  I consider myself very experienced, 60yo, been ridin for 45 years about.  I still goof up and forget to put my foot down sometimes when stopping.  Recently I pulled under a tree at my favorite fat food restaurant and put my foot out right on a TWIG...it rolled about 6 inches and I had to act fast to recover...lucky I'm so big and strong like when I was 20  <grins>

Don't let me talk you out of it, just know that it's not all breeze in yer face ridin into the sunset.

  10. As long as it's not too high for you, it shouldn't be a problem. And even if you do drop it, you don't have to lift the entire weight to get it back up.
