Question:

I accidentally broke the toilet tank...?

I dropped the lid on it and cracked it the heck out of it. The reason why I had to lift it in the first place is because it wasnt working right. So my question is, I am a renter, will I have to pay for a new tank and plumber fees since I accidentally broke it?

  1. You may be liable for the lid, which could cost in the range of 20 -35 dollars, your landlord is reasponsible for the rest.

  2. Jess,

Check out craiglist.com - I'll bet someone is throwing out a toilet near you and you can replace - and no one will be the wiser.

  3. More then likely they'll charge you for a complete new toilet. If you live in a large city call around to the scrap yard's, many save the fixtures for just this purpose. This is where I bought a lot of supplies for my jobs in restoration.

  4. I'm a renter too and my toilet was broken before I moved in   (someone tried to jury rig it and glue the cracks LOL!! ) the weekend we moved in it broke again...... I didnt have to pay for it. ..  dont tell them you  specifically broke it.(even if it was an accident.).  just say it cracked and started spewing water everywhere and you dont know what happened....

  5. I would say yes.  I would suggest that you go to Lowe's or Home Depot and talk with one of the guys back in the plumbing department.  I have found them to be very helpful and they may have some suggestions.  I had to replace 2 toilets in my house due to my husband becoming disabled and I bought 2 Crane toilets for $99.00 each.  They work great, better than the expensive Kohlers that were there, and were easy to install.  Hopefully you know someone who is handy or maybe your handy yourself.....they aren't all that hard to put in.
