I accidentally downloaded child p**n off Limewire. Help!

Am I going to be arrested? I was downloading p**n and just clicked the entire list, and hit download, and then later on when I came back and was going through them, I open one up and there's nothing there, and I read what it's called, and it has all these code words and "preteedn pedo" etc, and there was no file, so is that like something the cops made to catch people? Am I going to prison? I'm worried now. I hate LImewire. This stuff is stupid.

I have Limewire but I don't download p**n from there. I have seen some strange titles when looking for music and they seem like viruses so be careful. It's better to download one by one than all at once because you don't know what you're getting.

yah i stopped using limewire because it gave my computer a huge virus. the cops would probably look at what else you have downloaded and will see that there is only that one thing and they will probably realize you did it by mistake. they would probably only look into the people who have downloaded alot of that kind of stuff.

Your Internet Service Provider will be interested. Report this to whoever you are signed up with. I'm Canadian and I use Shaw. But there's also Rogers, AT&T, Telus and several other companies who provide internet service. They will want to know about that site so they can, remove it from their service, and, they will report it to the police.

You downloaded it, you are responsible for it.  

Realistically, you are probably not going to jail, that is unless you are downloading movies, music, p**n, etc. and burning them sending them out everywhere.

Delete it, and be sure and zero out your system hard drive next time you re-image your machine.  You do re-image your machine every 6 months right?

Go to start, then accesories then system tools and then go on system restore and try that.

if it does not work, delete limewire and all of the "p**n". and then remove it from recycle bin

and even if the cops do catch you, just explain what happened but you might get fined for using limewire

Why dont you report it. That way even if it is a trap for you (which I doubt) you will be able to prove that you didnt intent to download it. Also you are helping get some sick **** off the internet.

The short answer is no.  It is very unlikely you would be arrested.

Limewire simply connects one user's computer to another, with no third party connection so unless the source computers actions were being monitored by the authorities for suspected child p**n, there's no way anyone would know you downloaded it.

I would recommend deleting the files immediately and if there is a history function in Limewire, erasing that.  You could also do a system restore going back 2 or 3 days to wipe any reference out of your system's memory.

Again the likelihood of anyone finding out is very remote, and thus your chances of arrest are remote, but it would be a good idea to cover your tracks.

I don't think I would report the video to the cops as chances are you've cleared your que and thus any reference to the host computer that had it on there (which could also just be another guy like yourself who hadn't deleted the files yet).

Calling attention to the cops that you have/had child p**n on your computer sounds like a bad idea to me.

I agree it's despicable, and the perp who made it should be caught, but I don't know that there is a way to do that by your report and there is probably some risk to you by doing so.

uninstall limewire, erase the files, and see if you can restore your computer at an earlier date. I don't think the cops are going to arrest you, just get rid of the stuff.

I doubt it. Limewire is pretty primitive, and it's difficult to catch everybody through it. The internet is rarely policed due to its massiveness, so there is an extremely high chance that nobody noticed nor cared. Don't worry about it.

i have no idea how the illegal child p**n stuff works, but i would delete all traces of limewire and delete whatever child p**n made onto your hard drive. plus having limewire tells authorites you are downloading content you have no purchased. so that would be an extra charge against you IF you were to be caught.
