Question:

I accidentally dry fired my new bow

I have just bought a new Alpine Micro Elite I have owned it for 3 days now. I have the bow set to the lowest poundage which i believe is 25-30 pounds I am not very strong yet I am 15 but very small for my age and when practicing pulling it back to get use to it it slipped from my fingers. I knew this was bad as soon as I did it so I looked around for damage. I found a small crack in the upper left limb. The crack is about half an inch in length and there is another very tiny crack further down the limb. So my question is do i need to go get new limbs? or is it just a small problem. Seeing as I'm 15 money is quite a problem for me and i had just bought the bow on my own after saving for quite some time. I'm pretty sure I should buy new limbs but i would like to check first and if I do how would I go about ordering some? I've looked around online a good bit without any success on were to get replacement limbs.

Thanks for your time,

Mr. Moto

  1. do your self a favor and get a new limb. always better to be safe.

  2. Id try going to PM hobbie shop or memoey express or something and if they dont have them ask them where you can get some

  3. Depending on your moral compass, you could always return it under the factory warranty. Alpine should stand behind their product with no questions asked. If it was me, I'd fill any cracks carefully with super glue and watch them carefully. If the super glue cracks and pops out, or the cracks get larger, stop shooting it and get new limbs. I've got a nice scar on my forehead from a expoding bow (from a dryfire caused by a broken arrow nock) BE CAREFULL!!!

  4. If your limbs are cracked, DO NOT use the bow!  It may present a danger to you and any others around you.  Imagine them separating under the pressure at full draw!  You need to replace them.

First, I would contact alpine archery and discuss it with them.  It seems to me that a single instance of dry firing a bow should not have caused cracks in the limbs.  Some manufacturers test their bows to 1000 or more dry fires, so 1 should not destroy the bow.

With it being 3 days old, I would bet that Alpine Archery, being a reputable manufacturer, would replace the limbs at no charge except shipping.

The key is this - call them and explain your situation honestly.  From what I understand, they have heard all the stories before and know that people make mistakes.  Hit their website, but here is their phone number:

    208-746-4717

If you give them a made up story, they may not be as charitable.

When you get the new limbs, take them to a shop and have them installed, then don't dry fire any more!

    Good luck!

  5. Contact the company and ask them about replacing the limbs that were damaged. They should do so , as this is a new bow. A bow that will suffer damage when dry fired when set at 25 -30 lbs surely must have had some kind of factory defect when purchased. They should replace the limbs for free.Do not shoot the bow with the limbs damaged. good luck.

  6. Yes you will need to replace your limbs if the cracks are that big.

  7. right now the cracks probably aren't a problem but later on as soon as you start  using it for a while thy may break off so be care full
