I accidentally inhaled water and threw up. Has this ever happened to you?

I was eating at a restaurant and I was drinking and started to laugh (my brother said something funny) and I inhaled some water and started coughing and then I threw up all over my plate...it was undigested, so it looked like watery mashed potatoes. It was pretty embarrassing, and people must have thought I was bulimic or something. LOL. Has this ever happened to you?

It probably got into your lungs, and if it stays in there you can drown. So I guess you had to hack it up somehow. The natural hunching up thing and vomit reaction probably helped get the water back up and out.

Yes, this has happened to me before. But, I never threw up in front of people--how embarrasing.

It's a good thing that you did not inhale a piece of solid food---that can be a medical emergency.

The water went down the windpipe. Your body went into full mode of coughing to remove it. The water did not cause you to vomit, it was the coughing.

No but I once was in a pool and couldn't hold my breathe for very long so I came up gasping for air.
