Question:

I accidentally ran over my laptop after leaning it against the car. Is this covered by auto insurance?

I leaned the laptop bag against the car as I was struggling to get my daughter into her car-seat and forgot about it as I backed out of my driveway. I am wondering if, since it was an accident involving a vehicle, it is covered by my auto insurance. I have full coverage as opposed to liability only.

Thanks.

  1. creative thinking but nope, sorry. it's not covered.

  2. nope. but if your laptop had a warranty then it might be covered

  3. LOL!

  4. I'm an insurance adjuster and I handled a homeowners insurance claim once where a homeowner backed into his garage with his very high-end expensive bicycle on the roof of his car.  They covered replacing his bicycle.  So, if you own a home or if you live with your parents and they own, you can try homeowners coverage.

  5. Homeowners maybe a better try.

  6. No auto-insurance only covers your car and stuff...sry.

  7. Stupid is., I recommend an online insurance quote. It's free and generally hassle free. http://www.easyautoinsuranceguide.com

    Hope it works out

  8. You would probably have to check with your provider. It may also be covered under homeowners/renters insurance. Good luck. Most likely they will both tell you it is not covered.

  9. yes, but subject to your deductible, and counts as a claim.  You won't like the overall result as you'll probably pay more over the long run.

HOWEVER, my homeowner's insurance has a rider on it for computer and electronic equipment, no deductible and covers dumb$%&^ mistakes like the one you describe.  Check your policy

  10. No. Sorry.

  11. WOWO!!!!!! thats stupid ahaA! sorry! but geez what were you thinking leaning it on the car! HAHAHAH! nice one dude!

  12. Regardless of your auto insurace coverage, your personal auto policy in general does not cover your personal property, unless there is a specific endorsement for coverage or in some cases of theft.

Your homeowners policy may provide coverage for this, however, since the damage was caused by the policy holder vs. malicious mischief or vandalism it is likely your homeowners policy will not provide coverage either.

One thing to keep in mind is that if coverage was provided by your carrier you would most likely be subject to a deductible as well.  In most cases, this can vary between $250 - $1000.  Also, making a claim for this item, will follow you around as most carriers subscribe to C.L.U.E.  (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange).  You would not want to see your rates increase at renewal or even be non-renewed by your carrier for a loss of this nature.

Chalk this up to experience and try to be more careful.  You will have a story to share with your daughter and in time you will get a laugh out of it!

  13. Nope

  14. lolz nah I don't think so!

  15. Um, only if you bust your window out with the laptop and say someone was feeling destructive.

  16. hahaha. not a chance. you would have to have incurance on your laptop. sry about your comp.

  17. Not covered under any policy, HO or auto - you don't insure against yourself.

  18. I doubt it, though it doesn't hurt to contact them and ask.

  19. your out of money and luck just buy new one

    thanks

  20. Nice try.  You can't collect on the computer since you can't drive it.  Now homeowners insurance is another story.

  21. No, not unless you popped your tire.

  22. You can try to report it - but your goning to have to pay a deductible.  I don't think they will cover it but see what they say.  You never know until you try.
