I accidentally scratched one of my most important backup DVDs... how can I fix it?? :(?

  1. try putting toothpaste on the entire back of the DVD and let it harden... then wipe it off with a damp cloth and it should work right away

    ive restored countless CDs and DVDs this way


  2. which side did you scratch?  If the metalic layer is flaking off, you're done for.  If you scratched the clear unlabeled side, you might be able to fix it by going to an auto supply store and buying a bottle of PlastX (or similar) plastic polish.

    Get a clean cloth, apply some of the plastic polish and start polishing the scratch out.  Be prepared for it to take hours.

  3. Minor scratches are ok but, a big/major is most likely not fixable.

    Recovery disk?  If so you might need to order one for less than $20 USD.

  4. Buy one of those CD and DVD repair machines. They're only like £15-20 and i'm sure it'll be worth it if its important.
