HELP!! ok so i was washing aqua's tank. aqua is my brother's betta. anyway, aqua is really active and jumpy. as i took aqua out of the cup i put him in (while i clean the tank) and then he jumped out and landed in the sink. it almost went down the drain but i saved him by getting him with my hand and put him in his clean tank. IS THAT BAD?! WILL HE LIVE?

im worried becuase does the natural oil of human hands do something to the fish? i mean like that's what i heard and stuff...but is it true? will my betta live?

i accidentally touched the betta!!! I AM SO WORRIED! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

  1. he'll live

  2. I'd be more worried about what kind of detergent residue might be in the sink. Touching a fish can remove some of its protective slime coat, which might make it more susceptible to infection. That's why you shouldn't do it, but in this case, it was necessary to save the fish. Just keep an eye on your betta and see how he is doing. You might try one of the various water conditioners available that improves slime coat, but I'm not sure it's necessary.

  3. Your brothers betta will be fine don't worry. If you want to you can buy stress coat it will help rebuild his slime coat. But I don't think you will have anything to worry about as long as he is swimming around normally.

  4. I think he should be okay but jus incase take th betta to the vet.

  5. Trust me. The betta will live. (It happened to mine to Except it didnt land in the sink) . It lived.

  6. You can take the slim off the fish by touching them but they can produce their own back. It protects them from diseases an heals them also. If you'd like to be on the safe side you could go towalmart and buy a bottle of slim for your tank.

  7. he will be fine i have a fish that does that alot and i always just pick him up and put him back in and he is always fine he has lived for almost 5 years now

  8. no need to take it to the vet. It should be ok your hand wont hurt it unless you hold him because he needs water. What i would be worried about is fracturing a bone or something in his from the fall.

  9. Calm down, I worked at a pet store for well over a year and a half and part of my job was cleaning fish tanks. Everytime we switched them from tank to tank in order to use safety I used cupped hands around him, because the nets we had would sometimes get trapped in their fins.

Your betta will be fine as long as you don't put him in water that isn't dechorlinated. If he is put in straight tap water he will die, but you put him back into his clean tank very quickly. He'll be just fine, hun, good job saving him! I've seen someone drop a fish down the drain before, it's terrible.

He'll be fine, trust me. He won't get hurt, but I woudln't suggest handling him a lot or anything. He'll be fine, breath :)

  10. it will be fine

  11. If you got him back in the water quickly, he'll be fine.

Actually bettas can breathe air for short periods of time.

The oils on your skin will not hurt the fish.  It's better that you picked him up and put him back in the water than anything else... you probably would have damaged his fins severely trying to net him from a sink...

  12. just as long as your hands are clean and didn't touch anything hazardous he should be fine
