I have a Sony STR-DG910 7.1 receiver and a Philips DVD player. I want to do a 5.1 speaker configuration in my apartment room with a subwoofer. I don't want to buy some speakers that will not hook into my receiver. How can I be sure that my speakers will hook in properly with the receiver I already have?

  1. Any surround sound speakers you find at places like Best Buy like Bose, Sony, etc. will work fine.

  2. When choosing speakers they are all about preferrence and your knowledge about sound (music/movie) If youre knowledgable about music/movie, than you might  already have something in your mine. If not, than a mini 4inches speaker for left/right main and two more for surround is sufficient, plus any size(watts) centre and add them together with your sub. They are just fine.

  3. Are you just asking about the connections?

Most speakers have either 5-way binding posts or spring clips.

You can just strip 1/8 in speaker wire and insert, or buy the dual banana plugs from Radio Shack to make a neat connection.

  4. Make sure to use the proper impedance for speakers
